Any news yet on a Half-Life 2 demo?

Has Valve given any info yet about a Half-Life 2 demo? Like will a demo come out before or after the release? Will you need Steam to play the demo? Will the demo include multiplayer as well etc?

I haven't been following these forums for months so don't shoot me if the info was given a while ago.

I think it's been said that Valve won't be doing a demo until the game ships.
