so if you take ur anti gravity gun and pick up a person and put him over a fire-in-a-barrel will he set on fire as well?

cuz that would be kickin'

most likely.. notice the zombies in the e3 vid.. who knows if we can pick up people though?

check the valve info thread, its possible but they dont know if they want it as part of HL2, but its definitely possible.

if they dont let me pick up people... ARGH

i will hate that. i will hate upon them such that they would rather i did not hate upon them!

i want to pick up a teammate, put him in an empty barrel, and hurl him behind enemy lines. if hes still alive, he will come out of the barrel and kill them all from behind.!!!

LOL, that'd be so tight in a mod like Sven Coop or something. You could just chuck them behind a group of guys so he could flank them. I never thought of that.

i was talking about the part when they catch on fire.

Hehehe, just image picking up a guy and putting him right in front of that gaint log that was swinging back in forth in the e3 video. :)

Ok, that brings up a good question. If you hold something (anything, lets say a barrel) up in front of the swinging metal log thing, when it gets smacked does the barrel fly out of the manipulator's grip, or does the barrel stay in exactly the same place, and the metal log gets bounced around? Or does the force acting on the barrel push it out of the way but not break the manipulator's grasp, turning Gordon to one side?

I'm interested to see how they handled this kind of problem with the physics. My guess is that the barrel moves nowhere and the log bounces around.

I would guess that the barrel would get knocked out of the manipulator's grasp. I don't know a whole lot about the power of the manipulator, but logically it would seem that the force of the swinging beam would be stronger then that, and therefore overpower the grip of the manipulator.

u can

if you saw the tech demo, you can see that a body is being picked up by the manipulator, so im guessing you can pick up living people as well.

As we've already stated rdvortex, it is 100% possible but they may turn the feature off for the game for gameplay issues. But I'd imagine it'd always be possible to pick up dead ragdolls, because it'd be fun.

That gun with the blue beam won't be in the game will it? Just the orange one.

there's debate whether that version of the manipulator will even be released.

I think you will die, so it doesn´t matter.

I noticed that the corpse in the tech demo could be picked from each joint (the leg, the pelvis, etc). If you were to apply the same thing to a living enemy you'd run into problems since you can't really apply a ragdoll effect and animate the thing at the same time. So, if you could pick up living enemies, they would probably be treated like a single object (but even then it would look rather silly). Headcrabs would probably work though since they are pretty small and compact. Any thoughts on this? (my first post btw)

This would probably be impossible as the features for it are probably not in the game (and it would be extremely difficult to accomplish), but wouldn't it be cool if you could take a rope and use the gravity gun to quickly wrap it around a combine soldier and then squeeze him to death like a bowaconstricter (not sure how you spell that) would.

Interesting. I think (hope) valve have thought of this. There are a few possibilities.

1. The manipulator could just kill the guy you are trying to lift, and therefore mean that the ragdoll physics will take effect

2. The manipulator will work like it does on a corpse and the person will be helpless.

3. The manipulator will work like it does on a corpse but the person being picked up will be able to shoot somehow. Perhaps valve have included some animation for them being hung by a leg etc.

4. It will look really crappy and even though you are picking the person up, they will still be stood up as if they were on the ground.

I'm just wondering whether you can trip up a strider by pulling one of its legs. Or even if you could do a "Star wars" and wrap a cable around its legs.

I was wondering that too. It would be awsome is the striders actually walked (not just an animation) and could be tripped up some how. It seems their legs follow the terrain so it seems so but I'm not sure if you can actually apply force to it's body.

It could be possible for the combine soldiers to continue shooting you (they would need to have a dynamic system for pointing arms) while you hold them up by a lim. Flailing of arms and such could be done too but it would probably look really fake. If you could pick them up though, they might just piss themselves and drop their weapon. It looks like this will have to be done in a mod :(

In the strider part of the demo gordon throws a big drawer with the manipulator, notice how it breaks off the strider's head and the strider kinda gets affected by its force.

LMAO, that'd be hilarious! I could imagine you throwing an angry headcrab around efortlessley. Good thought dude!

I doubt that the manipulator would have a kill function, I think Gabe stated this too. So that cancels that out, was a good thought though.

I also remeber in an interview they asked Gabe about stealing enemy weapons with the manipulator. I think he might have confrimed it.. I can't remeber.

Well it has to be one of the two, weapons or live people (it would be really hard to steal weps otherwise). Weapons would be more useful imho. Also, if you could pick up live enemies then the easiest way to dispatch them would be to simply send them flying across to the other side of the map (considering how much force the manipulator uses in launching objects :)).

How about putting several headcrabs in a container and sending it hurling into some dug in combine soldiers?

Maybe because it's an alien weapon, you'll can't use it against ennemy :)

you guys r making sense.

lets say if u pick up a wood drawer and put it over fire. will that burn :afro:

hmm

i think thers a way to make it work... if they set the status of the person/monster you are trying to pick up to dead when you grab them, youll have the ragdoll effect and to bring back the animations just change status to living when you drop the body, unless you are dropping it off a cliff, etc.

I don't think it's alien; it looks all technical and man-made.
