Although Half Life 2 is my favourite game, I sometimes get put off by certain parts of the game for some reason.

Ravenholm - The first time I played that level in two years, I hated it. But now I quite like it.

Highway 17 - Not the entire chapter, but when you just turned off the shield at the other end of the bridge, and run back and have to go along the bridge with a train heading for you, I hate that. Really, I do.

Nova Prospekt - Although I now like this chapter, it put me off also. But I like it know.

Anyone else?

No. That's why I like HL2 better than HL1. There are no parts that I hate. There are more fun and less fun parts, sure, but I enjoy all of them. The only exception is before the first antlion guardian battle, when you have to use the gravgun to avoid stepping on the sand. A bit boring and repetitive, but it doesn't last that long.

Ravenholm- Hated when i first played it and i still do thats the only thing putting me off.

I like all of the half life 2 levels nothin puts me off. well? one thing does the rute canal were u are fighting all the manhacks i hate that level its so boring and easy to die cause the weapons ya have are crap.

RAvenholm defintly freaked me out! I could never get it. By far though my favorite was Nova Prospekt and the last level.

I dont think any of it put me off tbh, would happily play it through it all again another time, played through it like 3 times now I think. Will play through it again on the 360 as part of the EP2 package xD

I think the part where you have to setup a defence with the 3 turrets to defend off wave after wave of guards. Thats the only part that makes me go 'oh for ***k sake'.

No, HL2 is one of the few games that I enjoyed every part of.

Just the fact I never want to stop. I know that if I played it from the start, I'd want to play it all the way through again. And I always want to do "just one more set-piece."

The one place I am usually happy to save and quit on is the bridge because it really cuts away from the action in my opinion.

I find the first section pretty tedious, all the way till you get out of the city. Yes, I know it's meant to be atmosphere-setting, but it doesn't really work for me, mostly because of the feeling that you're being forced to go along a very strict route without anything to actually do...

Absolutely not. The reason I enjoy it so much is because of the consistency. It doesn’t let up, the gameplay is held together throughout more so than any other game I’ve played.

The final level, and some parts of the beginning.

Nope, but there are many areas in HL1 that do. One day, I suspect bits of HL2 will put me off going back to play.

Entanglement, dealing with wave after wave of guards with the 3 turrets. Boooooooring, but a challenge at times.

There are quite a few parts now. Although I like fighting in doors/around the city with the combine. Taking cover, wipping out gernades, and doing all the fun stuff.

For me it's actually the Citadel. After I "get to the horse." I usually just quit, I don't know if it's the long pod rides or what. After the first couple times it's just boring. Though going back in in ep1 is fun.

Every game has at least one of these parts you speak of....usually because the palyer either died alot or its generally just not exciting enough.....I would have to say the airboat part kind of bored me after the initial play....I like running around shooting stuff :upstare:

Certain "anoyances" have kept off playing it through more than 3 times; such as the long, boring hovercraft levels of much tedium and distress.

Ravenholm, not because it's scary but because it's tedious after my 6th runthrough.

The final level was the best one!! Being able to use the gravity gun and all!! I found it totally rockin

Indeed, using that grav gun for the first time was soooo fun

I have to be a dissenter here: there are huge sections I've never played properly without cheating, because I hate the puzzles or it's too tough. For example, the last bit where you have to get to the top of the tower, or the street battles with the NPCs (HATE NPCs!!)

It's not just HL2, either. Other games, like Doom 3 and Quake 4 also suffer from my indifference in places. I find most times I just load up a random map of D3 from the list and listlessly play my way through that, and I also get lost on there, too. I find headshots with imps satisfying, but if they survive, then I get tee'ed off at their screeching noises.

And I hated some of the sequences in Quake 4. There was one where you were in control of a gun emplacement and you had to protect some guy who was defusing the mines in the road from Strogg hell-bent on killing him. If he died, the game was over. So I remember the first time I played it, I saved the guy, only to die later on without saving my position. But every time since, I've failed, and it really drove me up the wall. So I've never played Quake 4 from start to finish, and just load up random levels to have a peek.

I recently bought Prey, and for once I would like to play that properly without cheating, but I don't know if I can.

Maybe it's my age, I'm 34. Am I an old fogie when it comes to games?

Ravenholm, not because it's scary but because it's tedious after my 6th runthrough.

Actually, I find Ravenholm to be one of the least repetitive places. Maybe it's because of the sheer number of ways to deal with the zombies. Each of my journeys through Ravenholm has been fairly different.

yes, yes you are. lol no joking. But when you are cheating in games you pretty much throwing the money away that you used to buy the game as games are meant to be difficult. Cheating just wrecks the satisfaction of completing the game as you know you cheated. Its ok to cheat after you have finished the game without cheating, but when playing through first time? Waste of time and money

I liked all of HL2 the first time I played it.
Upon repeats I find the "Don't step on the ground or antlions are gonna get ya" and any scene with the blue gravity gun to be the most annoying.

Parts that put me off... Ravenholm. First time I played it, I was afraid of the dark for seven weeks. After I played it the second time, I even liked it. HL2 was good almost all the way. But that sewer level was really freaky.
My faves are Nove prospect and Highway 17. The two final levels were awesome, and I liked to listen to Dr. Breen's speeches. He has some talent at perorating, don't you think?

Only Ravenholm put me off first time I went there I was on full volume and really scared because of the fast zombies but eventually like any gamer I went into a frenzy laughing like a lunatic at every kill and passed the level with relative ease :)

Ravenholm, because it seems as if you accidentally started playing a different game for awhile.

That was the most completely awesome part in existance.:O

But that sewer level was really freaky.

Um sewers? Maybe you mean canals? Um kinda lost. I don't remember sewers. And if it is the canals you are talking about, how are they creepy? OH WAIT!! Do you mean the mines??

I think he might mean the sewers during Anticitizen-One/Follow Freeman (I forget which one it is) that happen just you exit into the street of snipers near Barney. It's after Alyx climbs the roof when the road is blown up after you've taken out the generator. It's full of zombies/headcrabs.

Heh, I was actually really scared of that part. After she shouted down that she spotted a door I took a look down into that dark stairway that ended with a rusty manhole grate I just said ''No.'' And what do you know, it's chocked full of zombies and the dreaded poision headcrabs and zombies. This part is actually the part I get to and think ''I can't be arsed to do this'' and usually stop. I think I have a fair few save slots in that area. The snipers part after with Barney is pretty rubbish, too, I thought.

I had a love/hate relationship with manhacks throughout the game.

Thats what i was about to say. I found the sewers more scary then ravenholm.

Ravenholm - Highway 17 (I love the madmax like theme, though) - Sandtraps (except the last part, right before nova prospekt)

The rest is just fine.

I prefer Episode One over regular hl2. The average quality is higher- even if it doesnt'have the peaks of hl2.
