Any Pentium III overclockers out there?

I just decided to do this on a whim.
The last time I looked at my BIOS like 2 years ago I didn't really know anything about OCing nor did I care, but some recent reading has instilled the confidence in me to risk it all for fps love. <3

Trying to get as much performance out of my dusty old machine as possible before I replace it.

So far I've got it running at 1.18 and climbing.
Baby steps.

Those 50Mhz resulted in 1/2 a degree Celsius rise (31*C) in cpu temp and my heatsink is covered in dust.

Aiming for 1.2, then going full load on CS:S, then I'm going to test it up to 1.3, and if I'm lucky rest it at 1.4.

---

Just wondering if anyone else is trying to be competitive with a practically archaic machine.

---

If the post seems kind of random it's because I go back and forth adding things haphazardly.

---
If you have a P3 but don't OC feel free to announce your existence :)

Request: Title change to "Any Pentium III overclockers still out there?"

Oh, and I've got a K5 233mhz humming to the left of me. Retro gaming is life. Well, at least my life.

I wouldn't know an AMD nomenclature if it smacked me in the face with a wet trout.

But man, do you at least have something faster than that?

Personal notes because I can:
---
Running at 1.2Ghz and 32*C, voltage is still below normal operating parameters.
---
Temp went back down to 31* after a minute of idle.
---
32* @ 1.22
---
startup crash at 149, auto restart
---
Explorer crash at 150, auto restart
---
Going backwards.

It's starting up ok but my apps are crashing.

That line just made my day....:)

Get rid of the dust and you can OC some more.
It seems my fan is inadequate.
Stock Intel P3 fan, 4 years old, spins between around 3515rpm.

Is that pretty slow?

Weird. My AGP texture accelleration has been disabled for quite some time and I didn't even know despite the fact I likely turned it off.

I enabled it and whenever I try to run graphics it crashes....

Turned it off and set the OC back down to 1.22 and that's it.
That's the magic number til I improve the cooling.

Zomg, P3 overclockage!!!11!(2)

EXTREME!!!!!!!!!!one

Slap an xp90 on it, that should keep that bad boy cool enough to go to 1.5 :)

to bad the p90 would never fit on there unless you modded it somehow

Eh I'm not exactly interested in spending $50 for just a heat sink anyway, at least not for this crusty old set up.

DOn't waste any money overclocking that garbage. You won't even notice the difference you will get from that not to mention with a crappy PSU that it has you will run a high risk of ruining your computer for good.

Just spend that money on a new computer.

I'm going to look into enabling my texture accelleration before anything serious.

Is it possible my video card is too advanced for my mainboard?

It's 4x agp with 64Mb aperture vs. 8x 256Mb ddr...

1.2 is as fast as I've gotten my Tualitan up to. They were just a mature process we used to qualify our 300mm facility. They're not really meant for performance.

I have an old celeron at work based off the PIII. 450MHz, and I wanna OC it maybe 600Mhz if I can. I have it as a ghost server since you don't need 4800+ just to ghost although I'd like to:D.
