i leave my computer on sometimes at night and sometimes my parents turn it off. my worries is that they're reading my messages that i have. is there any way that when someone messages me and its blinking orange minimized(u know what i mean, an unread message) u can only maximize it with a password, if u set it to that option?!a hack or something? thx.

p.s. sry wrong forum i think.

Actually there is. Get "Messenger Plus!"

There's an option in the Plus! Preferences that allows you to assign a hotkey (like Ctrl + Shift + S or whatever you want) that will lock your MSN. When you want to open it up again it comes up with a password box.

No, this is the right forum.

And I wouldn't bother. AFAIK, there's no way besides an external EXE (risky) that you could get it done.

I would say, just trust that your parents don't read them. I know when my mom is sleeping on my bed while i'm on my PC (my room is the least hot in the house) that she doesn't read my messages. She respects my privacy, and I respect hers. She knows I don't read her emails over her shoulder when i'm in her room, so she doesn't do it to me. Of course, that's all going by the trust factor, but I trust my mom.

I'd say just relax.

I don't think it is. It's on this computer I'm using now (I'm at work) and I don't see any problems. I could be wrong but we don't get any popups or anything else. We keep it decently clean with Spybot or Adaware.

I would just make a password for you Windows account and just do that quick switch which locks your PC.

Windows Key + L

Yea honestly I'd say if you have to use a password to protect your private messages and such from your parents you have more than a software problem.
Beyond that the simplest thing would be to just sign out or exit msn when you leave your computer.

*edit* oh and another option - I'm just assuming that winxp computers have this aswell (im on my shatty old win98 pc and dont wanna go upstair now) but you could just use a screensaver and set it to have a password.
That way it'd go to a screensaver after x minutes and wouldn't go back to your desktop without a password.
I'm just assuming that winxp has this too but I dont use screensavers on my other pc
