Hi guys.

Just wondering if there are any tips of hints on how to increase your Fps on Cs: Source.
The game it self is very laggy, And has many bugs hopefully in time it'll be fixed.

Anyway to help increase my FPS? And no i cant afford a new GFX card lol

Regards Turko

Turn erm... (its in bot right area ish) begins with S (basically means smoke puff quality and water reflection quality etc..) well that makes v.little diff quality wise when put onto "low" but does your fps a decent amount of good.

Also try models on medium.

Other than that just mess about, maybe set em all to low then play, then when you think "wish that wall looked better" just put it back up again.

Chris.

Make sure you dont have any other programs running in the background, scan for any adware or spyware. to be honest you should be getting a pretty decent FPS. What are you getting at the moment?

lol thanks mate.

Yeah I'm running everything on High at the moment.

My Fps is all over the shop.
One moment it'll be at 60 then its down to 20

Buy a new computer with 1024mb ram, a P4 2.8 GHz or higher, and a ATi X800 XT Platinum Edition.

The game runs like silk for me.

God you're an idiot. Grow up.

Turko add these to your config.cfg file:

mat_bloom "0"
cl_interp "0.01"
cl_show_bloodspray "0"
cl_show_bloodsplash "0"
cl_ejectbrass "0"
cl_phys_props_enable "0"
cl_phys_props_max "0"
cl_smooth "1"
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable "0"

You're killing the graphics ;)

also use a lower direct x level. I have a 9600XT and put it on DX 7.0 and i get 90 FPS constant and it still looks damn good, besides the water. It looks like milk!
put this is the CSS shortcut TARGET
-dxlevel 90 = Direct X 9
-dxlevel 81 = Direct X 8.1
-dxlevel 70 = Direct X 7.0

Omg tweakers, hax! :p

Anyway, to the thread starter, how can you fps be bad with that pc? lol?

mat_dxlevel 81 in the console
You will see a frames boost of about 20-30 and the only loss of quality is in all the specular reflections on tile and flooring and water won't be as reflective (still looks very nice).

If you are wondering what this does, it forces your 9600 pro to render the game in DirectX 8.1 rather than 9.0b.

what does dxlevel 70 do then krameriffic? Just to do with water reflections?

hmm :D mat_dxlevel 70 in console helped me out, and it doesnt make it ugly or something :D

Thanks for the help guys.

Just to let you guys know recently I've had a major computer problem so i've had to Install Win98 and then Re-Install Xp over it to get everything running again.
But the problem is when my system re-formatted when installing Xp it kept the HDD as FAT32 Instead of Converting it to NTFS. Is that why my FPS is crappy? Or not!

I cant be stuffed re install Xp again as its a big bloody job to install everything again as you guys would already know.

Just to touch bases on what you guys recommeded if i change the Direct X to 8.1 how do i change it back to DX 9 ?

Kind Regards

CB | Para, you mentioned cl_interp as an fps-improving command. I thought that cl_interp is what ex_interp was in 1.6, and if it is, it has no effect on FPS whatsoever. It's a netcode thing. Also, cl_smooth seemed to have something to do with netcode (it seemed to prevent jerkyness when increasing rates beyond the defaults) But please do correct me, if I'm wrong. :)

Help :dozey: Do you think FAT32 File System is slowing down my FPS?

mat_dxlevel 90
mat_dxlevel 81
mat_dxlevel 70

As mentioned, those are the commands. Type which every1 u wish in console to switch to it.

Did you defrag before you install the game? (or is your installation of windows very new and you didn't install anything yet so you don't need to defrag)?

I bet half the people who have problems didn't defrag befor install(=first startup of the game). (The other half is probably using anisotropic filtering instead of bi/trilinear.)

The harddisk is the only movable part in the pc (except for fans), and it's also the slowest. If you're not gentle with the data, the data won't be gentle with you.

Oh yeah, turn off anti-virus

Mai suggestion. I get 40 - 75 fps like this, and I only have a GeForce FX 5200, lmao. Run in directX 8.1, resolution 1024*768, trilinear filtering, high texture detain (you can try medium, but low looks like shit. worse than 1.6 in mai opinion), medium model detail, no AA, no AF, low shader detail, low shadows, no bumpmapping. Now thats 40 - 75 fps on a piece of shit FX 5200. No overclocking at all. Pretty sweet in mai opinion. So if ya got a Radeon 9600 pro, God pray that u get better fps than me.
