Anyone else brainwashed at school?

i noticed the other day when i was rmembering old school songs and it stuck me that all the songs and the teachers singing with me were all about how great america was and all the freedoms we have. i was raised believing that america was second to none and that there was no better place to live. even though it might have some degree of truth it just kind of made me laugh. after all there is no harm in having a lil bit of nationalism...i mean a lot

anyone else have know wut i mean?

its a pretty weak case but i didnt literally mean it was brainwash. just heavy enfluences on a very enfluencital age/mind.:dozey:

EDIT: oh yea the pledge..does any other contry have a pledge in the moring, every morning.

umm, i don't really remember songs from preschool/elementary school.... i remember putting on your "thinking cap" in preschool though... and now they want everybody to say the "texas pledge" (like the pledge of allegiance, except for texas, heh) at the beginning of the school day....lol and nobody even knew that a texas pladge ever existed.

SEIG HEIL!!!!!The schools I went to never did that.All we did was sing pledge of alegance(spelled right?) and thats it.Well actaully most of the kids in my class including me never sang it, we just stood there with our hands on are hearts day dreaming about going home.

oh man...once in eighth grade the announcements came on, and they usually said the pledge near the beginning.....so right before they said it i knew it was going to come on, and i wasn't thinking or something, because i just popped up out of my chair standing there ready to say the pledge except...... i was a little bit early (since i wasn't thinking, it was just automatic), and it was u.s. history class and my teacher sees me pop up ready to say the pledge, lol, and she said something to the effect of "good" or something specifically pointing me out. i was really embarassed because i wasn't about to sit down since the pledge was about to start anyways (and besides my teacher had already noticed me get up, so i can't sit down again), but i was like the only person standing up..... oh boy, that was really weird

I think the pledge and all is fine. It's a good foundation so that later in life, you can come to examine and even question your loyalties. Some love the country and even, and as stated above, there's nothing wrong with nationalism.

The only thing wrong would be to hype a country falsely, like to say that we were a democracy if Bush was dictator.

lol its funny i saw this thread, cuz in school today our teacher told us about America and their schools\educations. 6 of his co-workers went to study in USA for some years. When they came back they had not learned as single thing almost and had to re-study in Sweden.

This is not supposed to start another hate America discussion but im just asking: is the schools and education that bad in U.S?
Cuz americans seemed really "stupid" to us, cus in a survey 6 of 10 americans tought "dont know the english word but something about the ozon layer" was a place in Europe.
Of course there are smart americans too..but this is not about americans its about your schools...cus European standards seem to be very very higher!


And pledge..is that when u commit loyaltiy to the country every morning? If it is...its brainwaching and extreme!

that is one thing that i think is BENT about america bloody pledge of alleigence hmm why does it keep coming back to nazism well obviously not but it sounds simular to me, see this is the sort of thing that people from europe hate about america... pisses me off. Although in a way it is justified since america is so big the only thing that keeps it together is "the love of the country" so its understandable but they shouldnt force it on people, a bit like forcing people to go carol singing or praying. lol my rebellious blood flows free damn my age.

Bingo , and it HASNT been taken too far. Its just a pledge you say when youre young. You dont even know what it means , so dont over analyze it for godsake. Anyway we listened to the star spangled banner , with no words.

Its probably the latter especially if you were in High-School , what would you expect them to learn in HS I knew a German exchange student in High-School , she didnt learn sht , she didnt even try. Never paid attention , she was hot and cool though so it all worked out lol.

If they were in college , they did soemthing wrong or they were at a bad college , the US has some of the best colleges.

Yeah, I remember doing the pledge in the mornings in high school. Or rather, NOT doing the pledge. Kinda pointless if ya ask me. No one gives a shit anyways. I wasn't one of those kids who sat there in defiance stating that they hated the country and wouldn't pledge. I just had better things to do than stand there and talk to a flag.

EDIT: about the not knowing shit in the schools is just about right. The level 1 Major British Writers class in my senior year had all these kids who were supposed to be the better of the bunch. I still am unsure how they got to where they are now, but most of them couldn't read. I was able to finnish a 400 page book in a week or less. They took 2 months just to read it. I know, most don't care, but thats still sad.

1. No one is FORCED to do the pledge of alegiance. This IS a true free country in the sense that you can HATE the country and still have the same rights as I do. The same is said of Prayer in school in America. You are ALLOWED to do it, but if you don't want to you don't have to.

2. Jay Leno: He most likely interviews hundreds of people, and the people who actually PLAY along get on the show. Have you seen their "Jaywalking Allstars?" No one would go on TV to be embaressed like that unless they were being paid to act stupid.

In my country (Canada) the only thing we sang that had anything remotely to do with Canada was the national anthem. Which is normal in pretty much every country.

Although the damn PC party which was the Ontario government (It was recently replaced by the Liberal party. YAY!! ) Wanted us to pledge our allegiance to the queen everyday along with listening to and singing the national anthem everyday. :x

People are using the word intelligence a lot here.

Please, could someone give a definition so it clear what everyone means. Otherwise i could call someone less intelligent for not understanding how to do high level maths when they can make a wardrobe without someone helping them, be it oral or some kind of instructions on paper.

America is a nice place to visit, but like all countries, its populated by humans. Humans can be the nicest or the worst things you can meet. You cant really make a gneralisation about a country.

Thats the two best defintitions for this thread.

So if your going to throw around a word like intelligence you should at least use it properly.
