Anyone else think the ending...sucked?

I mean, you kill the AI (which felt out of place after all this time alone and suddenly one enemy) and then we wake up in a sunny suburb. Not only that, what about all the questions (eg, why on earth did GlaDos kill all the aperture personal?)
 
But if Glados killed everybody with neurotoxins, WHERE are the bodies anyway?
I haven't seen anything.
 
I remember Gabe saying in a interview about a month before the OB's release, that Portal had the "most powerful ending we've ever done". I think he actually meant to say Ep. 2, seeing how Portal's ending was amusing but not exactly 'powerful'...

GLaDOS' neurotoxin isn't the reason the facility was abandoned. It's the reason the morality core was installed. Something else(I'm guessing Portal Storms or Seven Hour War) caused the place to be evacuated much later.
 
if you pay attention to the dialog and certain areas that tell what is going on then you would understand.

I keep seeing this question being posted over and over.

The staff at Aperture Science installed the "morality core" AFTER GLaDOS flooded the place with neuro-toxin. So it's obvious that the bodies from that mass killing were disposed of.

Now... if the remaining staff were killed off after that event, thats a different matter. We don't know if the remaining staff were gassed (doubtful because of the Morality Core), left the facility due to the Resonance Cascade/7 Hour War, or were somehow used as lab rats in the Enrichment Center.

I do find it interesting that towards the end, employees were forbidden to leave and go home.

Proof of this can be found by going to www.aperturescience.com and typing

"LOGIN"

Edit: Oops... it's "TIER3"

Then type either "THECAKEISALIE" (to get a view of an employee as GLaDOS was taking over) or "NOTES" to get a little history of the company. When you type in "THECAKEISALIE", i found it funny how if you then hit "enter", the spread sheet you're working on has "flour" on it. :) hehe.


If they were kept and used as human lab rats, i don't see whats so hard about dumping them into the furnace. "you will be baked... and then we will have cake".
 
Yeah, I think the morality core and GlaDos' killings afterwards cna be explained as...well shes completely insane, she thought she was baking cake. Not killing people.
 
Oh I have a good feeling that the killing is 100% intentional after GLaDOS became self aware.

I mean... just listen to the ending song, the comments during the final battle, or anywhere else in the game. The robot just wants to kill all the test subjects after she gets done with them.

Heh. The cake is nothing but an incentive for you to work harder to get through the testing so GLaDOS will have good scientific data from the research she is doing.
 
maybe the person/people who stayed in the enrichment centre stayed there to hide from the combine/7 hour war?

stayed there so long they went batshit crazy....

Seriously, Hasn't anyone thought that maybe GLaDOS cleaned the place up? It's not impossible. She has great power in the facilities.

couldnt have been, because it was before black mesa was nuked.
 
Brings up a good topic though. The levels that contained the gun turrets were supposedly for testing androids. Wonder if we will get to to see them in Episode 3 on the boat? Perhaps the player in portal (Chell? how did people get that name?) is actually an android?

chell is at the main facility. i highly doubt she goes on the ship
 
God forbid you have to actually think after finishing a game :/
 
the boat was lost in time of hl1; seriously what makes you think chell would be on it???
 
I havent gotten through portal just yet (im at test 18 i think) Been way to busy lately.

Anyway, close to the begining, not long after you have gotten through a few test. GlaDOS says something like, blabla done testing, you will be missed.

She also says something that sounded like this, after you complet your objectives. You will be baked, And then we eat cake.

=)
 
I kind of thought the ending was fun in a weird way. I do have to say I can tell I am a nerd because I liked the song at the end. YIKES.
 
Ask him personally via email, maybe? Or another member of the valve team? lawl.
 
I get the feeling shes gonna play a big part. Maybe she has a backup copy of herself on the borealis?
