just wondering has anyone got it yet?since im in europe i wont be playin it 4 a while, the reviews so far have been excellent, the best looking ps2 game ever they say, although greg'nothing is good enough to satisfy me'kasavin struck again in his review, stupid inconsistencies like 'it looks amazing to anyones standards'yet gives graphics 9,idiot :rolling:

Thats why reviews are such crap to base an opinion on. Its his own opinion and if its the best graphical game the ps2 has then it should be a 10 because it can't get any better but he gives it a 9 and why? because hes comparing the graphics of mgs3 to something else but does'nt say what.

I picked it up yesterday. I've played like 4 hours and so far it's a lot of fun.

Some new things in MGS3 -

Since the technology for the handy soliton radar from MGS1 & 2 hasn't been invented yet...you have battery-reliant motion tracker radar and sonar (2 separate devices). The motion tracker obviously detects motion and shows little white dots (no fov arcs) but also picks up little moving snakes, rats, gators, etc all while slowly draining an automatic recharging battery. The sonar is blank until you click L3. The sonar pulse sends back the little white dots that stay for like 3 seconds or so. Each pulse of sonar takes some battery.

-CURE Menu - Major wounds don't heal by themselves. You can tell you have a major wound (or even leeches) by hearing a sound or seeing your health bar with some red at the end. Go into CURE menu and treat the wounds appropriately. A bullet wound (not every single time you're shot - less often than you think) requires a knife to get the bullet out, disinfectant, some drugs to stop bleeding, stitches and a bandage to top it off. It's pretty cool. It seems like it takes a lot of items but you get a random item from every soldier (so far anyways) that is down if you pick him up and drop him.

-Stamina is lost after a while (moreso when swimming and such) and needs to be recovered by eating various foods or animals. Easy to hunt. Don't worry about this getting in the way. It's easy to get stamina back (so far). Stamina also decides how fast you run, how much air you can hold in your lungs, hp regen, how steady your aim is, etc.

-Health cannot just be boosted instantly via rations anymore. Your hp regens slowly depending on your stamina and faster if you're crouching or laying down rather than running around killing people. There are some instant health shots you can get...but they seem like they'll be harder to come by. I've only gotten like 2.

-CQC (Close Quarters Combat) - Seems pretty cool. I haven't been able to sneak up on a single soldier yet...I remember in MGS1 & 2 you could just run up behind someone if you didn't run on broken glass or anything. Now they always turn around just before I get to them no matter how slowly I walk. I guess outside it's hard to find silent ground to walk on or I'm doing something wrong. You can grab people, slit their throats, use them as a shield, interrogate them and just toss them. There's more...but I haven't been able to pull it off yet and haven't really had to. When they've turned around I cut them up with my knife faster than they can get to their radio and that's kinda cool.

Extremely minor spoiler - not even plot related (just putting it in tags for those extreme fans that don't want to know anything) -
When you start a new game it comes up with a question, "Which do you prefer" or something. "I haven't played an MGS before" "I like MGS1" and "I like MGS2" They don't tell you why...but I was guessing it could be a control option of some kind...so I chose MGS2. The game begins...and you're Raiden. At first I was annoyed...what the hell...I had enough of him and the voice is David Hayter...but with Raiden's face and hair. After some cutscenes and on the radio...they say..."Ok...the crew isn't around anymore...you can take off your disguise" Then there's a short little cutscene of Snake taking off the Raiden mask which you have as a camo option :P I was greatly relieved.

Another small thing. If you kill Ocelot at a certain time when he's unconscious the game stops with a game over message and they pipe in, "Snake, you've created a time paradox! You can't go around changing the future like that!" Funny stuff. The "Game Over" message slowly changes to "Time Paradox?" after you die too. :P

EDIT: If you liked MGS1 & or 2 and are looking for a tougher challenge this time around...get MGS3. So far the story is interesting. I have yet to hit the real meat of it...but I can tell it's going to be longer than MGS1 or 2.

sounds great amish slayer, defo my most anticipated game at the mo,wish i hadnt read the spoiler though, pretty funny bout raiden

I rented it and played it for a few hours. It's great. I enjoy it more than the others.

It's lots of little things like that that set MGS games apart because they never take themselves to seriously. There's all sorts of little jokes like that and little ways you can mess around (ex. in cutscenes you hold triangle and you can move the camera a bit and zoom in and such). There's never a moment in the game where you aren't in control of something.

You people have no idea how much I hate you all,(damn I wan't the damn game so badly, but have no ps2)

Amish: When you sneak up on a guard, use the d-pads, not the analogue stick.

When you use the d-pads, Snake moves slowly (he sneaks in other words) so the guards don't hear your footsteps.

Ahhhh. I'll try that. I figured I was doing something wrong. I was starting to get a little annoyed since I've been fighting my way through many battles lately (which I think are more fun than in MGS1 & 2)

Thermal goggles are a life-saver. I also have a second battery for all my equipment...so it's not really an issue now if I'm gonna run out of power.

You lucky Americans. Us Aussies and Euopeans have to wait another 3 months or so.

****!

nope, but planning to :bounce:

hearing all you guys saying its fun makes me more excited about the game

They should release it in Europe first and then America about 5 months later for a change. :frown:

yeah, those sons of bitces, and what pisses me off the most is that europa is actually the biggest market for games. And we here in holland for some reason get the games later than the French or Germans, while for them they have to translate but for us they don't and games here in europe cost more. Simply put if you live in europe and you like games you are ****ed.

have to agree with you there amish bout the lil things in mg,just look at the extras/easter eggs faq for mgs2 at gamefaqs, its like 20 pages long!,MG=GENIUS :E

Does anybody know if they plan to release the damn game for the pc.

Grey Fox I highly doubt its coming out for PC. At least not until another year or so.
