anyone here had their steam account jacked before?

i just did today :(

im awaiting a response back from steam support which is excruciating

anyone else had this happen to them?

I haven't, could you explain what happened to you? What is YOUR story. *gathers around the fire*

Maybe he gave his password away to VAC Account Confirmation System.

i didnt give any of my info to anyone and my pc is clean of viruses and spyware.

yesterday when i signed on steam, it asked for my pw. i tried to login but it didnt accept it. i then tried to get it by email but it was never sent to my email; so in other words whoever "owns" it now changed the email as well. the only other computer ive signed on is my computer in my house. so i really dont know how it happened. ive never given my info to anyone.

One of these statements are incorrect. Sorry, but the reality is that if you really didn't give out your details, then you almost certainly have some malware that got you.

Remeber, a clean virus scan only proves that your virus scanner didn't find anything, not that theres nothing to find.

well technically i include malware as spyware. there are to many "wares".

Yeah, and if you do have a strong and unguessable password, then something must be wrong on your computer.

it has to have been somekind of virus.

iv had my acccount jacked before and steam was no help in getting it back because i didnt have my cd key. hope you have you'res good luck\

also i got an email from a fake steam page afew days ago it was like [email protected] <- lol and they wanted me to go to a steampowered website and revalidate all my info. maybe they sent it to you also?

nope i never got that.

the only proof i have of owning the account are my email receipts from the many games i bought and my hl2 cd key.

You should really figure out what happened, or there is a good chance it'll just happen again.

This. Also does anyone else know your password? They might have done something by accident.

i dont even know how to even find out how it happened.

btw my account says its disabled now.

Edit: anyone know how long it usually takes for the ticket to get a response?

Well, once I had a javascript file put on, so whenever I went to edit my steam community, it would add me to a Ron Paul group, add random people to my friends list, and invite all friends to said Ron Paul Group. The script was in my info section, named something along the lines of btardrandomcharacters.jsp, I was quite worried at the time, so I just deleted it without copying it to find out more about it.

do you think its possible that adding a certain friend did this? i believe i added 2 or 3 random people.

if its not that then i have no clue how it happened. django's is the only logical one"

Edit: my 9600gt is coming tomorrow so ill be alittle happier despite playing steam games for alittle while. :D

I really doubt people randomly adding you will have your account stolen.

What if the person who's nicked it has got you VAC banned?

steam should have responded to your ticket and then it would have told you you're new password was sent to you in an email

umm it would only be that simple if i had my email and account tied to that email. i doubt valve just gives out passwords to some information i give them.

anyone know how long a support ticket takes to respond usually?

well recently all my games were VAC banned and i think there was a huge delay in that when my steam account was hijacked. i sent steam a message and they wont do a damn thing about it because their policy says they arent able to remove it no matter what happens. that is one of the most bullshit policies ive ever heard of! im so pissed.

That's a little rough. Can you prove that the banishment happened while your account was 'jacked?

no i cant, but ive had my account since 2004 and have never hacked. it seems obvious to me that it was the person who hijacked my account. my friend told me there is a delay in the vac ban sometimes; so if they do get banned then they wont know which hack banned them.

Yeesh, that sucks. But you can still play your SP games, right? (I have no idea what happens with a VAC ban.)

That's ridiculous. If they don't do anything about that shortly, I'd start up a protest on the Steam forums. They should keep logs of email addresses used on an account, which should then get you your account back...

But yeah, that's utter bullshit. Steam can piss me off on occasion. They even managed to give me my dad's account details, although I'm not entirely sure how they managed it.

yea i know, its a really flawed policy.

yes i can play every game i own but i can only play in non-VAC servers and there are very few of those. i guess i could just use that account for the single player games i have now and just repurchase tf2 and css on anothor account.

It's not a flawed policy, it's VALVe covering their arse.
What if you just created a new email address, pretended to steal your own account, and went on a hacking spree?

Unlucky that you got your account swindled, but in the end it's kinda your responsibility.

ya i guess thats true, but for the guy who really didnt do anything its bullshit

ok then....now i cant even login to my account. the password and email are changed once again!!!! wtf is with this shit. im getting pissed off and steam support wont do a damn thing about it to help. my pc was formatted recently but whoever still obtained info.

... you did change your password and secret question from last time right?

There must be something still on your computer or a firewall turned off or something.

ya i changed the pw and secret question. that could only mean they are getting into my email somehow. i havent seen any suspicious activity though.

Bloody hell. You've got me so paranoid about someone stealing my Steam account now!

rofl sorry. it just pisses me off that i get to be the victim.
