I just downloaded it and started using it. Its pretty neat, it plugs into IE (sorry thats all it plugs into right now) and lets you search your computer for files, webpages, documents, etc that contain keywords you are searching for. The really neat thing about it though is that when you first turn install it, it begins to "index" your files in the background it means when you do an actual search it is instantaneous.

I did a search for "Half Life" on my new computer and it returned 322 files and 36 web entries containing those two keywords. It also finished the search in 0.01 seconds.

Now everytime I use regular google even with Opera it also does a search on my computer for files containing the same terms. Its in beta and it hasn't been of much use to me since I havn't had to find anything yet but its a neat idea.

Its also good to know Google has got this now in use before Microsofts next OS will.

Here is teh link:

I think it works in FireFox, when I do a search in regular Google using Opera I also get a message now saying how many files Google found on my computer and I can browse through them that way.

However when I click on the Google Desktop Icon it brings me to IE.

Maybe it opens IE because you have it set as your primary internet browser...

Nope I made sure that wasn't the case long ago. It said while it was installing that it wasn't designed to work with my default browser.

Google doesnt like opera. Neither Gmail nor Google Desktop work with it.

Which really sucks, because i happen to love both of them. I hate having to open IE to check my gmail or to use google desktop. However, google desktop is SOOOOOOOOOO much better then windows search, its worth it.

Don't you still have both?

IEView is a nice plugin, because firefox is not perfect.
