Anyone know ear pain?

Anyways something happened to my left ear the other day. So here's how it went down, I worked in the cold rain all day one day, next day I sparred with boxing equipment with a buddy, got knocked in the head a few times. So I had this headache/earache, I'm pretty sure the headache came from the boxing and I'm not worried about that cause it's gone pretty much. The earache might be connected to the boxing but I think it might've been from the rain and this cold I seem to have developed.

Anyways while I was working out on the bench doing my normal weight at ten reps on the 9th one I felt my ear kinda hurting then when I did the 10th I heard this sudden pop in my left ear and there was a sharp pain that slowly diluded down to a less sharp but still heavy throbbing pain. I fell asleep and was fine the next day, my ear felt a little funny. So I hit the bench again and the pain builds up really rapidly if I'm even just benching light weight, it gets to a very uncomfortable level.

I've been doing curls and situps and pullups and pushups and just about everything else. If I do a whole lot of any one of these I can sense the pain coming back, but usually I'm worn out before it starts hurting real bad. Yet if I try to hit the bench an almost any way it comes back a whole lot quicker.

So my thought were it must be related to the blood pressure or flow or something, and that laying down like that must affect gravity and whatnot and the pain stems from that. What I don't know is what it really is, ruptured eardrum, popped blood vessel, I just don't know really. It's been going on for about 2 days, I can still hear just as good so I don't think my eardrum could've been damaged. It becomes a heavy throbbing that I can kind of feel behind my left eye too if it gets bad. When I rest for a few minutes it subsides. I'm just hoping it goes away in a few more days if not I'll see a doctor I guess.

Anyways I was wondering if anyone here had any idea of what it could be or maybe even prior experience. Because this is really messing with my workouts and it's just that one ear that this immense pain seems to be constricted to. One of you has to be a doctor. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I need to talk to a doctor about my groin pain.

I think its serious. Been going on for over half a year.

100000mgs of morphine will do the trick.

ruptured eardrum sounds pretty much spot on though. I had a ruptured eardrum a couple of years ago, also while sparring, I got a boxing glove right against my left ear. I knew something was wrong right away, but my first thought was I could shake it off. When I took a shower afterwards, some water got in my ear and I felt like I was going to die a horrible death, so much it hurt.

You should go see a doctor ASAP. Eardrums can take months/years to heal (in my case 6 months). It may even not heal at all. I know you can buy earplugs that allow you to swim or take a shower without having to worry about it (very usefull).

Good luck.

Sometimes if I'm doing a lot of weights my hearing is kind of muted for a while afterwards. I think it has to do with the fact that there are muscles inside your ear that get triggered involuntarily, closing off your eardrum a bit, just because you're using a lot of other muscles in your body, like how some people make funny faces when they lift weights. This muscle inside your ear gets flexed as well. Or that's what I was told by my father, the audiologist. Anyways, that's probably related, but I've never gotten ear pain from it.

I'd have to have sex to get that. :|

It isn't a ruptured eardrum because if it was then you would have had blood come out of your ear and you'd be rolling round on the floor screaming. It was just that, a pop.

It happens when pressure builds up behind the eardrum and it is pushed outwards. If you block your nose and close your mouth and try to breath out of it gently thats what happens, because air is forced into your inner ear.

In your case mabye you can't get enough air out and some of it goes up into your nasel passages, but because those are blocked it goes into your inner ear, from there it is quite difficult for the air to work its way out. So if you wait for about 10-30 seconds, then the pain should ease up. (wait longer or perhaps stop if it doesnt ease)You do have a cold/blocked nose/sinuses right? If so, taht could be the cause.

BTW, I'm no doctor, so you should see a doctor if this doesn't resolve in about 5-7 days.

Yeah I had something similar a year+ ago. Didn't go to the doc in time. My left ear is ringing like **** since then.

Tempo-mandibular joint pain, the pain is actually coming from your jaw and shooting into your ear. If you're tensing your face muscles you are putting pressure on the joint at your jaw. The "pop" could have been from your jaw too. When you were boxing your jaw might have been sprained or maybe a bruised face or jaw muscle. I'm not a doctor, just a smarta$$.
inflamation of the jaw can spread into the ear.

I'm a doctor.

A doctor of philosphy!

Hmm... I've been blocking my sneezes latley to avoid snot covering everyone and it's done some shit to my ears. :|

The tempo mandibular can be damaged by high pressure, or as Phantim said, being hit. I learnt about the pressure thing the hard way, trying to hard while plying trumpet. However when that popped the pain didn't shoot into my ear, it was distictly where my lower jaw joins my skull...

Thanks for the help guys. The serious thoughts are appreciated, (Phantim, Darkwolf, and Apha) the comedic ones weren't all too funny, at least you tried to be funny. It probably is a ruptured eardrum, so I'll see a doctor and let him take a quick look in there since that's all that's required to see a rupture.

All those years of phone sex are catching up to you. You have Ear AIDS

About the same thing happend to me when i went to a Led Zeplin concert...
