Blackfable said:I love electronic music like Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, The Postal Service, and Dntel. Not a huge fan of trance.
Reaktor4 said:Yeah. I dont like any funky house, cheese or dnb/jungle/breaks etc though.
I dont know too much about it to be honest. Im sure theres some good stuff.thefiznut said:No breaks? nooo!
I love the breakage.
yeah, what? i guess you could call postal service an indie-pop electronica cross-over, but (to me) they seem to have little allegiance with IDM like aphex, boards, etc. i think of them as indie-pop with electronic influencesCyberSh33p said:I hear postal service's official genre is "laptop"
nice
I guess if they count, then sure. mainly cause I like the singer.
tried out kraftwerk once too, never got into em I'm still the operator with my pocket calculator, though.
Unless they have changed their style completely since the last i heard from them, thats not techno mate. Assuming they havnt, listen to the music in the intro of www.technopride.net. The sound is low quality unfortunately, but that will give you a good idea of what standard techno is like.Lil' Timmy said:i like some straighter techno stuff too like chemical bros.
what was the last you heard of them? their earlier 'big beat' funk-loops gave way to a more traditional house style with Surrender. they kinda crossed back with the last album, Come with Us, but they're still closer to normal old house than IDM, which is what i meant by "some straighter techno stuff".Reaktor4 said:Unless they have changed their style completely since the last i heard from them, thats not techno mate. I dunno exactly, an example would be that awful (imo) block rockin beats.Lil' Timmy said:what was the last you heard of them?
Ok I was never into them, so i wouldnt really know what theyre like now. House isnt techno either though, if thats what you mean.their earlier 'big beat' funk-loops gave way to a more traditional house style with Surrender. they kinda crossed back with the last album, Come with Us, but they're still closer to normal old house than IDM, which is what i meant by "some straighter techno stuff".
it's close enough for me :dozey:Reaktor4 said:House isnt techno either though, if thats what you mean.
AntiAnto said:Radiohead?
SubKamran said:Mmmmm, are they electronica? Isn't electronica electronic music geared toward listening instead of dancing? I suppose I'm just a n00b with it.
I was listening to the Electronica channel on Comcast's Digital Music and it was basically dance/trance without vocals.
AntiAnto said:Radiohead?
Blackfable said:Idioteque by Radiohead is probably your best bet if you want a great Techno/IDM song, or maybe just an overall unbelievable song.
If you were talking about most commercial trance, i would agree completely. I think of that more as pop thats supposed to sound like trance rather than shitty trance.coax said:I don't really consider techno and trance "electronica", it's more electronic pop.
Id recommend downloading some live sets. Mauro picotto at trance energy 17-02-01 is particularly good. Its mostly tech trance. You can find this on kazaa (full version is about 120mb).SubKamran said:Can anyone recommend any electronica that:
* Doesn't have any vocals
* Is good to listen to
* Fitting for a party
* Great while fragging people (celebrating Haloween )
I am so not up on this kind of music, I like it, but I need to know what to use for the party I'm going to
Keep in mind this will have to be downloaded since I have $2.
dys4iK said:I'd recommend something you can find on www.hybridized.org. It's an assortment of progressive-house/breaks/trance, and is quite good. It features artists such as Hybrid, Deepsky, and Nubreed, who you'll have heard of unless you're living under a rock or not familiar with electronic music.
not to mention varèse.Cybernoid said:I mean, do Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream or Brian Eno say anything to you? They probably say nothing to the average clubber.
Some of it has a sort of technoy feel to it, like visible noise. You could probably get away with describing it as some sort of obscure techno sub genre but its certainly not your average banging techno.coax said:If Hybrid is considered techno, then techno is cool.
Cause Hybrid - Morning Sci-Fi is awesome shit.
But I wouldn't consider it techno, I may be wrong though.
