Are there even any decent launch titles? I'm curious about non-professional opinions on the 3D effect and the new menus and stuff and just generally how it works.

My girlfriend is buying me one for my birthday in a couple of weeks. The launch title list isn't that strong but there are a couple worth checking out. I'm mostly getting it because I want to play some of the titles down the road (Ocarina of Time, Starfox etc).

Nope, might pick it up when MGS3D comes out if that turns out good.

Of course there are other titles I want to play as well, Ocarina of Time for one since I've never played a 3D Zelda.

Edit: Just realized that holy crap, the turn-based squad strategy game Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is actually made by Julian Gollop, so that's another must-buy for me when I eventually get a 3DS!

I want one, but I don't really play Portable game units anymore so I'm going to pass for now.

Oh snap, turn-based Ghost Recon? That sounds awesome. You better let us know what it's like.

As I said I won't be buying a 3DS until at least MGS3D comes out and even then it depends on reviews etc, since I have a PSP that just gathers dust and when I bought my DSi XL last year I got bored of it within a week and sold it.

But I've seen several reviews of Shadow Wars and generally they all say it is one of the best launch titles for the 3DS.

Saw one in the flesh yesterday. The 3D effect doesn't work over someone's shoulder (well, duh), but you can see the screen ok. Only saw the Augmented Reality cards in action though. All a bit shrug worthy, but I always wait for the games anyway.

Tried it yesterday and tried pilotwings just for a few minutes just to get a feel for the 3d. Was surprisingly impressed tbh, the 3d is a gimmick lets face it but its a nice one :)

i'll get one in the future i guess when there are more games out there that interest me, right now only the ghost reocn game does.

I think I'll pick up one if the price comes down a bit, as a kid I always dreamed of playing a 3D Zelda(like the N64/GC ones) on my gameboy.

Just hope I won't get the same as I did with my DS: playing it all day for 2 months and after that never using it again.

I'm afraid there won't be a lot of good games for me, most of the handheld market moved to useless touchscreen phones(which greatly limit the gameplay possibilities) and the 3DS doesn't seem very popular.

Getting one next Friday. I told myself, that I would not buy this, but then I got a job and got extra money :D

No, I don't buy a console that has shitty launch titles.

out of curiosity, can anyone remember a console launch that didn't have shitty launch titles? the only one that comes to mind was the SNES (Super Mario World, Pilotwings, F-Zero) and maybe the N64 (for Mario 64, which was life-changing back in 1996).

Halo for Xbox and Twilight Princess for Wii.

lol Halo is no better than half a dozen PS2 shooters that were already out by then. Also, one title does not a good launch make.

This is what I was thinking. Launch titles are almost universally shitty. There are occasional gems but for the most part every system's launch lineup is 80% trash.

Also, you really are a lurker extraordinaire. You have 0.03 posts per day, that's like one a month since 2003.

This is exactly why I said I never buy consoles/handhelds on launch dates or within 3-5 months after the launch.

Most of decent titles still has big fat "TBA" attached to the release date.

By the time most of the game I want come out for this they'll probably have a 3DSi Lite so I think I'll pass for now kthx.

Ill play this in a demo kiosk say "oh thats somewhat effective 3d" and then wait till the price drop of the redesign. I dont care if it takes as long as the ds did to go down to a better level, I waited until 3 months ago to get a dsi when they were 80 bucks at Radio Shack, didnt really miss it

Nintendo. SNES. Genesis. Saturn. Playstation's UK launch. N64. Dreamcast. PS2. Xbox. If we're talking handhelds: Lynx, GBA, PSP. In fact that's pretty much one system from every generation, if not more, that had great launch titles.

Also 3DS is fun even if you don't like the launch titles. Seriously, you're gonna be playing with the AR cards for hours after you get the thing anyway. That's all you'll be doing. AR cards.

Nintendo might be worse then Apple when it comes to having new SKUs every other year for almost the same device.

Playstation 1, pretty sure it launched with Gran turismo. Great launch.

Waiting for mine to deliver.
Then waiting for games to deliver.
Then waiting for the charger to deliver.

I hate their new region lock.

I got to use a friend's 3DS for a couple hours. I liked it. Not sure I'm ready to buy one, but I found it to be an overall enjoyable experience. I played Pilot Wings, the submarine game and the Tom Clancy game. I played everything with the 3D slider all the way up. My eyes never felt uncomfortable at any point and no headaches before, during or after. It was easy to move your head too much to the side and have the graphics go haywire until you get your head back in the correct position.

I bought a black one. I love it. It's true that if you play with the 3d turned on and the sound up, the battery only lasts about 2-2.5 hours, but I will be replacing the battery with the Nyko battery kit. I've been loving the thing so far.

I also highly suggest getting screen protectors. It smudges quite easily and cleaning often is the only way to keep it shiny.

I was thinking of the Timesplitters and Red Faction series, but I think probably only the first title in each of those was out by the time Halo CE came out.

I got a 3DS.

It's neat, but there are no games for it yet.

I got one. Shadow Wars is the best game.
