Anyone play in 2048x1536 ?

I just bought a new system on Saturday (you can read about it in another thread).

Last night I decided to shell out for a Sony 21" flat G500 monitor - max resolution 2048x1536 @ 75 hertz. It was used, but these things retailed for $1200 a few years back. (Theres 2 more left on Ebay and they are going for cheap)

It's pefect for maxxing out Half Life 2, in fact, that's exactly why I bought it, it's one of the few monitors that can handle that high res at a decent hertz.

I checked some benchmarks for my new Radeon X800 XL and in HL2, they were getting about 35 frames a second @ 2048x1536 with 8x AA and 8xAF. Anyway, I can always cut back on the AA or AF if I need a little bit higher frame rate.. but because of my prior system (listed below) I'm used to playing in the 30-50 fps range with no AA and only triscopic (sp?) filtering.. so no biggie.

So... does anyone here actually play in that resolution? How is it..?
 
Do you even need AA on that high of a resolution?????
 
You wont notice any jaggies at that res so AA is useless anyway.
 
My comp runs HL2 at 20fps at 1280*1024 with no AA/AF, so it'll die at that resolution.

Edit: Assuming my screen could take it in the first place.

Could you post a few screenies? I'd be interested to see HL2 at 2048!
 
considering im at 1280 by 1024 i'd be scrollin forever to get to the other side
 
Thanks to my processor, I can't really run 1280x1024 without lag, it lags up even in medium sized areas with no AA.

That's really not true... First, viewing at 2048x1536 is only 4x the samples of 1024x768, and second, the samples are still in a nicely ordered grid. In other words, my Voodoo5 will have better jaggie performance using 4xAA on 1024x768 using RGSS. Finally, AA does more than address jaggies, you'd still have a problem of pixel popping.
 
HL2 runs at 120 FPS at 1280X1024 with Full AA and full AF. My monitor can only go up to that resolution.

my monitor cant even go that high i dont think =\ anyway 1024 x 768 is more than adequate for me
 
Like I said, when I bought this last night on Ebay, there were 2 more left. I only paid $79 + $25 pickup fee, and I'm typing from it now!!! I just picked it up and installed it! Lucky for me the guy was only an hour away on Long Island, NY, so I saved on the shipping and handling.

GO buy them!!! These G500 monitors retailed for $1200 a few years back, I just saved like 93%!!! lol

And I just played on 2048x1536 for the first time!!

On my current system it actually ran really well! Which was surprising! Can't wait to see it on the new PC which should be here any day.

Suffice to say, it looks great, as I expected... What else can I say? I did actually notice a few jagged lines - such as Kleiners computer screen, so yeah AA is actually needed still. The whole world looks incredible, much bigger and it's so much easier to see all the details that went into every little thing. I mean besides a higher resolution, the screen itself is also bigger. It was actually playable on this system.. I wonder how much better it will look with 8x AF and AA.

I killed a scanner and you could really see every little part of it.. The scenary and surrounding buildings look really cool, it just makes me want to look at every little detail of everything... but I only played for like 5 minutes, I'm going to wait for the new PC to go through the whole thing.. can't wait.

If anyone really wants some screenshots, I can take some.

What's great about Half-Life 2 is that it does not seem to suffer as much as other recent games from having a higher resolution – this is due to a combination of good game coding and a greater reliance on the CPU.

Considering that, I run it at 1280x1024 and really notice the difference, in both performance and detail.

Oh yeah, show us some pics!
 
That's decided it, the new PC, it's coming with a monitor that'll do 2048. :D

Holy moly! Please do your eyes a favor and at least turn on 2xAF, that looks quite bad (textures). Other than that, AA really wouldn't be needed.

Greater reliance on the cpu... that pretty much confirms that the processor is the reason I get larger and larger performance drops, and more often, with each step up in resolution. I need an A64...
