I am. Just got stripped of my weapons and escaping the squish machine. Its surprizing how fun it is. This is probably the 4th time thru, and even though i pretty much know what to expect its still hella fun. Graphics really arent everything. GO HL1!

What part are you on and why are you playing it again. If youre not and too lazy, do it anyway! You wont regret it!
 
I am too, I just started the other day so now I'm at the blast pit. This is an annoying part, it's easy but sort of long and puzzle-ish.
 
I tried speedrunning but didn't work out very well. Blast Pit is my favourite part by the way :)
 
lol. I don't see why - the part with the gargantua or whatever it's called is fun, but when you get to that part where you're running around in the corriders at the bottom... that's poo ^_^
 
I was tempted to start again the other night. I've never completed HL you see /o\ ...... have played through to Xen on 3 different occasions and stopped there.

(infact if anyone could fill me in on what happens, before HL2 comes out, i'd be very greatful :) )
 
I'm playing through right now. I'm at the part with the big yellow teleportation core.

Warble: the xen part isn't that long and features some nice moments i'd just play it, myself. It'd be far more fun than just being told the ending.
 
Man, wierd that... I literally completed it again the night before last.

Not sure why, maybe I just felt that with HL2 incoming (4 months at the latest I should hope) I would top up my dose of storyline. Hell, what with talking to the G-man at the end and the presumption that HL2 takes off DIRECTLY after that, it's practically essential that I refreshed! So easy to remember why Half-Life was so critcally acclaimed at the time...
 
heh, i started just a short while ago, took a break, and am back at it as of 3 nights ago(with breaks for replaying NWN) . . . . right now i am in the lambda reactor coolant place thingy, and i dont have too much ammo(or health) and the (eh, i dont know all their names) hornet dudes and vortigaunts are raping me(mainly, when i get in a room with 4 hornet dudes, each takes 6 shotgun rounds to the chest(point blank) and can kill be with 5 hornets). so ive been breaking for some NWN today. but im feeling hl again, so . . . .
 
I tried to play back through it, but I keep getting a glitch where the game crashes whenever I fall from a long distance. I was at the part where you use the mirrors to charge the laser, then blow open the wall by blocking the shield with the box. You have to drop down into a room after this and it crashes. This was about a month ago, and for the life of me I can't fix it, so I just gave up. I beat it awhile ago anyway.

You don't need to just jump down from the top of that part. If you stick to the edges, you can use the pipes and small ledges to climb down unharmed.
that might stop the crashes too.

Anywho, I'm in the Xen grunt factory now, in the part with the peaceful Vortigaunts who don't attack you.

Also, to Naft: why are you using the shotgun? It's pretty crappy against grunts.
 
Maybe it's all he has ammo for. Remember that the hit model is body-part sensitive. It's much more effective to hit them on flesh than armour. Plus, the magnum is much better. If you're where I think you are there are some steam pipes you can turn on and lure the aliens to their doom. Grenades are also useful.

You know, HL is the only game where you get captured and lose all your weapons and it's FUN as opposed to boring and annoying (stand up AVP2).

What difficulty are you guys playing on (always on Hard for me)? And what are your favourite bits?
 
Im a the "On a Rail" part right now.

Pretty fun id say... in lack of better games :)
 
I'm actually going through Opposing Force again, started the other day on Normal difficulty and i have just killed the one eyed worm thing for the first time.
 
I'm going to do some revision, then start playing it again today.
 
i completed it again a few months ago. its suprisingly fun!

Installed it a couple of days ago, in the middle of the silo maps. It's still a fun game.
 
Completed it so many times, but I just cant enough of this game somehow. After watching the "Speedrun" video, I maybe gonna play through it again. :p

I dont really like the "On a Rail" part though, wish you could jump over it. :)
 
in blast pit right now. as soon as i'm done with this i'm gonna do op4. i should probably be finishing farcry or KOTOR ($20 at best buy- haven't even started it yet).

there isnt that much that is better, the magnum is, but i had like 5 shots, crossbow is good from distance, but i was close range, didnt have explosives(maybe a few grens, dont remember), and only had like 30 radioactive energy.... i was just before the steam parts, i did use those though, this is my 3rd or 4th time through.

does it do any damage if you hit them on armor? i always assumed it did nothing, and timed all my shots for the stomach(or head with magnum or c-bow).

I just had to try it 3-4 times and i got it(but inbetween i beat NWN, so it was productive), and now im on xen, the part where you have to go up the whole thing with the flying aliens and the vortigaunts.

one really weird thing happened though....when i was fighting the gonarch, at the spot where you follow it down the hole, it would stop(right before the part where you slide uncontrollably into the pit), and if i jumped down on top of it i would die, if i managed to get past it wouldnt follow me down(and so i couldnt get past it, due to the script that blows up the floor when the gonarch dies). i tried killing it right there, but after 5 satchels, 10 grenades, 10 40mm grenades, 70 ammo from the backpack gun, 5 rockets, 70 shotgun rounds, 30 magnum, 40 crossbow bolts, and 200 9mm rounds, plus a few crowbar hits for good measure, the damn thing was still alive spitting acid and spiders at me. i had to /noclip my way out of that level, because i couldnt fix it. (note, i dont cheat, but i did want to freaking finish the game).

I'm playing through Opposing Force again. I'd very much like to play it with the hi-definition pack..

That happened to me in the part where you jump down into the headcrab-filled hole. I think you have to be in sight in order to scare it.

If you stick to the edge of the pit you slide into, you will likely land on a ledge, and not die. When Gonarch is up on the spider web, she will come down if you shoot her enough. After that, a few final shots kill her.

The sniping from above doesn't work for some reason. Maybe because the top part of the egg sac invulnerable?
 
She is only vulnerable in her gonad. Snarks can be useful because they go for her balls. Or ball, even.

I thought you didn't like it?

Half-Life is rarely buggy, but when it is it can be prgoress stopping. For example, on the bit where you have to escape the trash compactor before walking along the tops of the walls, those walls that squish you were not visible. You can imagine the problems I had trying to walk across them - I had to judge by the way they smashed crates.

One of my favourite bits in HL is at the beginnign of Apprehension. WHen the marines blow the tracks and your train plummets down a big pit...

at what part in the Xen levels did u stop playing?
i think i have save files for all levels.. so if u are interested i can help u out with the save files.
 
On "We've Got Hostiles". Going through on easy mode since... well it's easier :)

I already completed it on hard back in the day so eh. I'll probably stop at Xen too.

Ahh the gonarch bug. Unless u use the noclip cheat, you cant finish the game. I know it sucks, but the gonarch can take his ballsac elsewhere in my mind. Worst boss ever. lol.

meh it happened to me last time so dont blame ur comp.
PS: at the beginning of xen now. oh how the game flies by when you have the immense urge to play.
