Probably crappy pings, the normal with AOHELL. ;)

Is that 512kb downsteam or upsteam? Upsteam is what you want for online gaming. I have persona communications 5MBps downstream and 512upstream and it works good so I would guess your Ping would be slightly over or under 100 as mine is more like 50 or so.

PS I am obligated to say AOHELL to be cool

It'd be way better than dial up so take it for what it is.
AOL is gay sure, but I'd rather 512 instead of 56k or less.

It probably will work alright since my crippled DSL connection works almost lag-free on alot of servers. Though you can expect to be kicked off a few times. It seems most server admins dislike anything slower than a cable internet connection.

Well the main reason is that cable is getting faster than DSL by the day, got 2 upgrades in 2 weeks time, one from 2mbps to 3mbps then to now at 5mbps, you can even upgrade to 8mbps package now with Road Runner.

Just think about it, they're currently testing BPL (broadband through power lines) and from the current results you can achieve higher than 200mbps download speeds, but the technology is unlikely to launch because it causes interference with all UHF (ultra high frequency) radio, like police scanners and emergency systems.

DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi kids, this is your friendly neighborhood forumnite, MarcoPollo. I'm just here to remind you that AOL gets their bandwith by killing innocent children and harmlesss animals. Also, they are indirectly responsible for every single murder, rape, and villanous crime in America! So for the children's sake, get a new ISP!

This PSA has been brought to you by the "HL2 fans against AOLers"

AOL is good :p. Had it for years, I'm on Gold (still at 512KB (technically 576), waiting for it's upgrade). I get great pings.

The thing is, you all put it down but I bet you can't name one, specific massive problem with it :).

AOL is that a bigger problem enough?

I think unimita was dropped on the part of his brain that controls his taste in isp's

Dun know about its High-Speed..I had a friend who had AOL 56k...yeah... My 56k gets double the speeds maybe 2 disconnects tops within 24 hours total. Him...a disconnect every 45 minutes plus its costed more! I have a local isp :). Yeah.... there I learned..

The fact that you are forced to keep the AOL program itself running while on the internet.

I had AOL DSL for like 2 months, I got 500+ ping on any HL1 server because the program kept bogging me down.

Besides, AOL is simply evil. There are so many better alternatives.

From my prespective, AOL = LOL. Though I have it, but only to get\type e-mails since for some reason Mozilla Thunderbird has always been ****ed. Also what does this have to do with CounterStrike Source?

I have AOL Gold.. 512 right now but being upgraded to 1mb soon.. I range from 20 - 100 ping on most HL servers..

I used to have a few problems with it, not being able to get online sometimes/disconnecting, but recently it's been fine. Kinda expensive tho compared to other ISPs, as soon as I can I'm changing I think

I feel sorry for you guys, its so hard to go back to dial up after you have cable or dsl its just not even worth it anymore.

I disagree with you on all points. Upspeed is only very important if you're running a server; as a client, downspeed has the greatest impact. Also, ping varies widely depending on the server's connection and location relative to you, not just your connection.

And AOHELL deserves to be called that, not just so the one calling it can look cool.

AOLDial means you don't have to anymore.

I get pings of from 15-40 on PlanetSide, 20-40 HL2: DM, 60-100 if they're American servers (I'm English so live in England ;)). Recently they did a connection software upgrade of the AOL service, too, so even better.

AOL sucks harder then an expensive hooker, there service is terrible
