Well i'm on UK time zone so I was all ready to play my steam version of Half life 2.

My error which has been the same through out is simple I get to the loading screen then it flips me back to desktop no error.

counterstrike source does exactly the same.

My system
Windows XP pro SP2
AMD 64 3200+
MercuryKVT 800X-L motherboard
1024 mb ddr.
Point of view Nvidia 6800 GT graphics card
Audigy v1 sound card

"could be a corrupt download file"
Well I ported my entire valve directory to my wifes pc and the game runs on hers
Windows xp professional sp2
AMD XP 2800
1gb ddr
NF2 Abit motherboard
gygabyte 5900xt graphics
onboard sound ac 97

But still I deleted my entire steam and redownloaded.
No difference.

I removed my Audigy card completely (only card in my system) no change.

I tried running with the -console the +autoconfig etc etc.

I've tried updating my via 4 in 1

I've tried running in Dx 7 - 8

Nothing

Me To

Man, I am fuming. I have a 9800 pro and tried dlding dx90c - nothing.

Funny thing is, it was working last night and CS:S works fine.

Someone, help us.

I even emailed Gabe about this one.

Yeah, all other fixes just don't apply here. It is 100% done, the -directx command to 8 or 7.0 doesn't work, reinstalling doesn't work --GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Why the HELL would it work once and then not again? Could it be that I adjusted graphics settings in game that don't take effect until the game restarts and that is causing the f -up?

I had a taste of this game and then it was taken away from me.

Isn't there a dll file that you can delete so when the game starts up is automatically makes another - yeah, not too computer savy here - but I've heard of that fix before.

Okay i've checked my system:

How many people with this same problem are using

AMD64 ?

P4 ?

Motherboard with Nforce chipset?

Motherboard with Via chipset?

Windows xp without sp2 pack

Windows xp with sp2 pack

I am going for the final approach

I don't suggest this to anyone else

I've ordered a new motherboard MSI Kn8 Neo platinum

If it arrives tomorrow i'm uninstalling my pc completely reinstalling windows xp pro etc

Hi all
Here is the translation of a solution to have the game working !!

Part 1 :
--------------
Go in the directory :
E:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\STEAM _ACCOUNT_NAME\half-life 2
there is a directory named "bin" that contains many .dll etc

Part 2 :
--------------
Enter the "bin" directory and copy all the files (ctrl+A, ctrl+C)

go back at E:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\STEAM _ACCOUNT_NAME\half-life 2
then paste the files here (Ctrl+V)

Part 3 :
--------------
Select all the files and directorys (EXCEPT THE "BIN" DIRECTORY) in

E:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\STEAM _ACCOUNT_NAME\half-life 2

Copy it !!!

Part 4 :
--------------
No Go back in the "bin" directory then Paste the files and dir you've just copy
if windows tell you that there is files that have the same name so just overwrite it, as you want that's not seams to be a problem if you don't

Part 5 :
--------------
Quit Steam
=> Reload Steam, right click : Games, right click on Half-Life 2 and Launch the game
Enjoy if that works , sorry if that don't
