APCs in CS:S

The APCs in Aztec and Piranesi look very ... juxtaposed in maps they are in. The maps look medium quality but the APCs look high/very high quality models and skins.

Would anyone bother making those skins and models just as a prop nobody cares about? No way. My guess is they are in halflife2 sp! Either that, or one an alternate and official hl2 mp (in my dreams).

Any thoughts on this? They just look too good and taunt me at the inability to operate them!

what happened to gabe saying you could have multiple users in vehicles in hl2 mp too, lies lies lies... what he meant was mods that use the hl2 engine. lame.
why wasnt he ever front up about this
 
Well if you remember, there is an apc parked in the road in the 2003 coastline video. I doubt they will make them drivable though, your field of vision is too limited.

Im sure they said there would be surprises in CS:S but so far I aint seen any, I mean its just CZ with nicer graphics. I thought they were going to include useable vehicles in CS:S. oh well my mistake. I just dont think CS:S is worth much at the moment till they do loads more updates, maybe then we could see the vehicles serving a purpose. Who knows. :bonce:
 
they had that browning hippo in bf1942 with limited field of vision, it worked ok but was hard to see yes.

now that you mention that APC from the coastline video.... it is a bit similar. but its not the same one is it?

and the idea of it being from tf2 is one i would greatly welcome to be true!

They like making vehicles for some reason, DoD maps are packed with tanks. And they look nothing like the general combine design, so I doubt they´ll feature in HL2.

No, to limited to make it fun.

You would need to have a 3rd person view to drive it properly (like in Bf1942) and thats not gonna happen in hl2.

Look at the vehicles we have already seen. Really wide field of vision, with just a thin frame blocking your view.
 
This is very possable as I have seen models shared between HL2 and CS:S already. The white van near T spawn on dust is in one of the HL2 screenshots from the magazine reviews.

Care to put noclip on and go take some detailed pics of the jeeps/APC's so we can have abetter look at where they might be from? thanks.

Uhm... armored cars are supposed to have small windows if that is what you mean. There are some drawbacks to increased protection you know.

so its just an undrivable prop from hl2 sp?

cs had drivable vehicles and i loved it. half the reason it didnt work out was because of the engine.
cmon, its a nice way to bright up your game. just have a few maps with vehicles, the apc in siege actually helped quite a lot if you had a good team.
 
I want a bus. I want to start the level driving a bus with my entire ct team into terrorist town. This would rule all things god ever intended for this world.
 
I noticed them too. They looked very strangely placed, and of high quality. I doubt they're borrowed from another game, more I think they plan on including them later.

I loved the CS map with the floating train thing and the motorcycles... it was hilarious.

Yeah - where the hell is this "surprise" that was supposed to be in CS:S? Didn't the author of one of the mag reviews come on these forums and say that it would have some sort of twist? This means that either he was lying or he played a different build than what is currently released or Valve just told him CS:S would be different and he believed them without any evidence. Either way something is wrong. Why hasn't the community jumped on this?
 
do you think the APC models are static? or that they are infact drivable vehicles that have just been somehow blocked/disabled?

i guess well find out when the SDK comes out and custom maps come out

There are hints of things missing. There's no chicken, and I get "file missing" in the console when there should be an ambient song/sound. On office for example I get missing file when I walk near the big trashcans underneath the computerroom full of dells (not too far from ct spawn). It says something about flies sounds missing.

Maybe they're going to do the same thing they did for CZ and release a super duper update?

You see, like realistic reflective mirrors, drivable vehicles would take away from the immersion factor. It's all quite logical...if you lived in bizarro world.
 
It's possible to have driveable vehicles in CS:S. They just have to add them. Custom map or something.

Ok. What about gameplay? It wouldn' be any fun to drive an armored car or an APC?
