APEC Meeting Sydney Australia - Are you rioting?

I wonder if Stern feels like an asshole after seeing that clip of the police officer being kidnapped. By the way, why the hell is your riot police not properly armed? One sight of that flamethrower and they ought to be in a pool of blood writhing in pain, if they're even alive after being shot.

Double by the way: What the **** is up with your psychopaths(rioters) and sticks?

The guy was later sprayed with gasoline and set on fire.

****ing commies. Our huan rights commissn banned the usage of tear gs and guns.

Luckily, most Australians are not insane like that.

/EDIT don'tmentioncronulladon'tmentioncronulladon'tmentioncronulla

Well, to be honest, most of the people I've seen protesting are simple labor and minimum wage workers.

what the rich and white collar have no reason to protest? wow who would have thunk it? oh the humanity minimum wage earners protesting for fair wages? ****ing NUKE the lot of them!!!

(No offense meant to anyone. I know that minimum wage workers are equally human as lawyers and whatnot.)

but you thought otherwise or else you wouldnt have made that statement ..down with the workers they're just feeding at the state troughs anyways ..it should be illegal to be middle to lower class ...cant wait to see what your outlook on society is when you actually have to fend for yourself instead of suckling on the teat of prosperity through the sweat of your parents ..stones thrown from within a bubble dont have as much impact, numbers ...btw I can guarentee Nemesis is right now scratching his head and looking puzzled ..numbers probably grasps most of it but his programming hammers it into a repressed little ball to later become unraveled during therapy sessions with a prison psychiatrist who's left private practice to devout his life to the study of a patient who one day went inexplicably insane and killed 47 minimum wage earners with a police baton

And often thosse who condemn the labor workers protesting are the intellectuals of society.

omg the priveledged complainng about the uprising of the unwashed working poor? say it isnt so ..nuke the ****ers

Where they can't cause any harm.

you miss the point of democracy

Exactly; it's banned for a reason.

you miss the point of democracy and support authoritarianism ..so please dont ever talk about democracy because you are anti-democratic

Well, if everyone agreed, wouldn't that be a giant leap towards peace and stability?

you miss the point of democracy

Probably guilt.

mixed with ignorance ..again throwing stones from within a bubble is ineffective

Anti war protesting:

I cant watch these videos atm but knowing you they're more videos of South koreans beating the shit of police officers ..in the past I've posted videos of the exact opposite: police brutally beating defenseless protestors ..in one instance you can see a police officer beating women who werent even part of the protest ....but that would be making the same logical fallacy as you're currently commiting: your videos are not indicative of political protest. you people are insane not once have I ever witnessed an attack using improvised flamethrowers ..Protest is seldom violent but because that's all you ever see you automatically associate it with violence ..not once have I ever witnessed an act of violence that wasnt police initiated ..and that's in at least a half dozen protests I've been to ...how many have you attended? none? oh there's that bubble again ..my advice to you is: live a little, try fending for yourself for a change, stop relying on others to put ideas into your head, be your own man and when you have achieved that you may and I stress may feel some sympathy for those exploited by the state/big business

Firstly I don't condone violence, but how can anyone support government paid forces armed to the kilt with riot gear over people who don't want to see these elitist nut jobs keep increasing the rich and poor gap with their unsustainable, and ultimately socially destructive ideals.

Bunch of brainwashed tools, that's right, you know who you are.

Slightly off topic but a mate of mine who likes going to raves missed out on one recently that turned nasty when police showed up. Know what happened? The police started hitting the women to incite the blokes into fighting back so that the police could enjoy a good scrap. I understand tear gas and truncheons were used.

what you refer by hiting?:naughty:

Epic Chasers.

One day they'll be taken seriously, like the Daily Show. Still a joke in the eyes of Australian politicians though (who can blame them?)

My gateway defaults to connection refused so they must be getting hammered, the flash/WMP vids seem to be fine though.

Thats what i assumed.

All the promotion today must have worked ;)

Now you make me sound stupid. :( (although that may have been acheived without your help :))

Well, I am never biased because of someone's occupation. Unlike you, deah sah.

And uh... what?

omg the priveledged complainng about the uprising of the unwashed working poor? say it isnt so ..nuke the ****ers

I guess you're right on that...

you miss the point of democracy

But not the point of stability and security for greater prosperity.

you miss the point of democracy and support authoritarianism ..so please dont ever talk about democracy because you are anti-democratic

But that's like not talking about fascism because you're anti fascist...?

you miss the point of democracy

Isn't the point of democracy to benefit the greater whole?

mixed with ignorance ..again throwing stones from within a bubble is ineffective

Actually, I thinkk you're right. I ve gotta get into life and the world more. Then I'll have (somewhat) the experience that I can use to perhaps disprove you.

Oh damn it. I understand that my arguments fail because I don't know what I'm talkign about. I'll try and refrain from politics and have a bit of respite until I do get out in the real world.

I've realized that what I know about the world I live in is almost all from tv and the media. Which can be biased.

Now my head hurts.

Hey, Numberz, what's your opinion on the Chaser boys? :D

/EDIT While I'm here, I might as well say that these security restrictions are both a) ridiculous and b) ineffective, especially given the ability of the Chaser boys to get so far into the cordon.

Now you make me sound stupid. :( (although that may have been acheived without your help :))

I'm not tryng to make you feel stupid, I'm just illustrating another pov as clear as possible ..also entertaining myself along the way ..I like doing the alarmist thing, it's fun, I get to yell a lot, well in text anyways

even if it supercedes rights inherent in real democracy?

you miss my point, I'm saying you shouldnt talk about democracy as if that's the form of government you support when in actuality you really believe in authoritarianism

no, not if the whole infringes on the rights of the individual

can? are you under house arrest? or is life for students that regimented that you're not allowed free time to explore the world around you?

I hope the rioters kick some ass.

Y'know, the more I think of Solaris as a socialist, the more I think of him as a couch potatoe.

even if it supercedes rights inherent in real democracy?

What about the right to live free without having a brick chucked at your head, or a bomb thrown through the store front of your business because some emotive prick thinks he's making a statement out of the very sense of destruction he protests?

when was the last time a bomb was thrown through a store window during a protest ..please cite specific examples ..you're being alarmist kerberos

on a side note, Bush made a completer jackass out of himself by referring to Australia as Austria and APEC as OPEC.

^ LOL. Bush ...

you're being alarmist kerberos

I can't believe I have to convince you that riots are destructive and serve no other purpose then seeing what you can get away with in a limited amount of time. To anyone who would riot -- think of your saftey first. Don't put yourself into unnessecary danger.

See, the thing is: Keberos is talking riots whereas Stern is talking protests.

kerberos ...you added a boxing riot and the LA riots as proof? POLITICAL protest is not the same as rioting because your boxer just lost the match ..not to mention that you said "or a bomb thrown through the store front of your business" to which I replied:

"when was the last time a bomb was thrown through a store window during a protest ..please cite specific examples"

where are the videos of bombs being thrown through a window?

Stern, you would make a good politician. And I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. You seriously present very good and level headed arguments that are based on validity and facts rather than opinion and assumption. So props and think about running for something.

No he can't be a politician. The world of politics will destroy Stern.

You can try and be moral and righteous, but when a thousand different situations are thrown at you every day, demanding a moral standpoint, everything becomes cloudy!

Question to Stern from media trying throw his judgement.
"Sir do you believe blind lesbian mothers who are addicted to crack but were abused as little girls should get $1 million compensation from the government"

"No"

/media reacts by calling Stern a narrow minded bigot

"Mr Stern, do you believe Gay protesters should be allowed to wear g-strings to work and slap other people with pink ping pong paddles on the ass?"

Stern: "No"

/media is appalled

Multiply this by a million and you develop a very skewed sense of right and wrong. I think anyway, i may be speaking from my asshole. It's why all politicians are "appalling narrow minded bigots". Err

See, the thing is: Keberos is talking riots whereas Stern is talking protests.

Then, according to the thread title and your interpretation, he would clearly be off topic. Which, where not. We can move on now with the debate right?

kerberos ...you added a boxing riot and the LA riots as proof?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Los_Angeles_riots

The riots, beginning in the evening after the verdict, peaked in intensity over the next two days, but would ultimately continue for several days. Continuous television coverage, especially by helicopter news crews, riveted the country and shocked viewers around the world. People watched as parts of the city went up in flames, stores were openly looted, innocent bystanders were beaten, and rioters shot at police. A curfew and deployment of California National Guard troops began to control the situation; eventually federal troops from the 7th Infantry Division in Fort Ord and United States Marines from the 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton would be sent to the city to quell disorder.

Estimates of the number of lives lost during the unrest vary between 50 and 60, with as many as 2,000 persons injured. Estimates of the material damage done vary between about $800 million and $1 billion. Approximately 3,600 fires were set, destroying 1,100 buildings, with fire calls coming once every minute at some points. About 10,000 people were arrested. Stores owned by Korean and other Asian immigrants were widely targeted, although stores owned by whites and blacks were also targeted. Despite the race riot image the event retains, much of the looting and violence was done by young men, both black and Hispanic, and much of the looting was opportunistic theft of luxury goods. Criminals used the chaos to their own benefit, and street gangs settled scores with each other and fought the police.

You don't get that from just, "yelling at police officers". Stern, I think in this area of the debate you must be seated.

By the way, if anyone actually cares about APEC and Australia and the 'Rioting' therein, 7 people got arrested, a couple of people got hurt, there was some camera footage of a member of the press being shoved, etc, etc. Accusations of Police 'heavy-handedness' are flying everywhere, Police Commissioner is sort of 'eh, i'd rather Overkill then Underprotection', there are snipers on the ****ing Opera House, and all in all my city is in ****ing Lockdown.

/EDIT And of course despite the $170 million dollar security system a bunch of actors got within a block of the President's residence.

Yes, because they're are dumbasses out there who want the emotional and pathological validation that rioting does not give when making a statement. It's not just for the Presidents protection; it's for your businesses, it's for you, you're neighbors etc.

Don't riot. To anyone that might, think of your saftey first.

yes I'd say you're spot on .. very well illustrated I might add ...although I could do without the g-string and pink paddles imagery <shudder>

Kerberos, you avoid the direct questions yet again ..provide examples where bombs are thrown through windows during a political protest ..you said that was the reality, prove it or shut up ..and yes I know of wikipedia and the LA riots ..what of it? was there a bomb thrown through a window that I'm not aware of? was there some small sub section of the riot where people were carrying placards that supported gay rights, or were pro-abortion, or where anti sanctions in iraq? what was the point of posting the wikipedia entry on the La riots?

Kerberos said:

you speak in undecipherable (I suspect even for you) riddles ..yes, I'm usually seated in front of my pc ...again what do the LA riots have to do with a political protest?

sweeping generalizations ftl ..how many protests have you attended? ..be honest now ..how often have you witnessed first hand riots at political protests? please cite examples ..how many protestors have you personally given psychological testing to? you seem to have assessed those that were arrested, perhaps you'd like to give us your reasoning behind why you feel they have a need for "emotional and patholigical validation" in rioting ..you must be close to formulating a thesis as to why rioters exhibit this need ..perhaps it has something to do with whether or not they were breastfed as young children .......................... :upstare:

...again what do the LA riots have to do with a political protest?

I can believe you're this stupid. Do a wiki search please and educate yourself.

Apec's over, Security was highly inconveniencing but far from airtight, main thread over, secondary arguement between Kerberos and Stern underway.

I can believe you're this stupid. Do a wiki search please and educate yourself.

which specific section? under what heading ..which paragraph ..what exactly am I looking for ..why dont you tell me in your own words, it's your point, explain it

CptStern, Riots are bad and I don't mean to sound like Mr. Garrison reguarding the point. People die, property is usually damaged or vandalized by the rioters ... and I digress; a wiki or google search should help you in understanding that.
