I took a closer look at the clipboards lying around the administrative areas:

What on earth do you think the thing on the right is? Aperture Science was doing a bit more than just creating portals?

Yeah it looks like a chicken. But I highly doubt that.

Maybe they are testing on more than just humans...

I am 100% sure it's a chicken skeleton, I've worked with them in labs:

They talked about androids in the game, maybe it was an android participant?

Sulkdodds: Pretty sure it's just a bird.
msleeper: How Can It Hold The Portal Gun?
Sulkdodds: I guess that's why it failed.

lmao...
It does look like a chicken, and after playing this game it wouldn't suprise me...It would be awesome if you could play through the game as the chicken too! lol :D

Guys? Don't you get this?!!

ROBOT CHICKEN.

They're obviously fans.

I agree with you on that.
This is why they were behind Black Mesa. Testing it on a chicken? Cmon!

Imagine an android chicken flinging itself all over the place with the portal gun and then splatting into a wall. Probably why it failed :)

It's a chicken for sure.

You play as one in the up and coming Portal expansion.

So hmm, test subject #234 - a human - didn't fail but didn't pass either? I guess I could do a bit reaching and say that player is the test subject #235 or something very close to that then since if #234 is "in progress", that one most likely is the "Ratman" who left all those drawings around to point out different things.

Nevermind my previous theory, #234 is Chell. Note the top left corner of the (stasis?) pod's display.

It's a...

it's a Vortigon(SP?) i think. those aliens from HL2

The complex is ran by a malfunctioning computer, how can it tell the difference from able participants?... It's obvious that it's a chicken; it's there to add to the humour of the game.

I tried using the command 'INTERROGATE 234' and 'INTERROGATE 042' after logging in as 'CJOHNSON' with the password 'TIER3' on the aperture science website but it didn't work, both came back with the results 'NO SUCH EMPLOYEE'...
The command appears to work now, we just need to find a valid employee to interrogate...
I also tried 'INTERROGATE CHELL' and 'INTERROGATE CJOHNSON' but neither of them worked either...
