Aperture science in HL2:Ep2

when you get to white forest in ep 2 you will eventually watch the video from Dr. Mossman or whatever her name is, and when the video moves to the ship, the cargo containers have aperture science on them, Kliener mentions them working on a "new technology", this would probably be the portal gun from portal...
did steam make portal and Ep2 at the same time? And since they are inter-locked already, will we get the portal gun in Ep3?

Yes you are right, the boat (the Borealis) is a vessel which was owned by Aperture Science, but went missing many years ago. As we know Aperture Science had some technology in teleportation via use of portals.

In Episode 2, you are aware of the increasing problem the Combine are having with teleportation technology, and the need for further reinforcements on earth after the uprising. They need help. As you see in the video which Alyx intercepted, they have found the Borealis. Who knows what is on the aperture vessel? Portal technology or GLaDOS?

The portal gun is unlikely to feature in Episode 3, it doesn't seem like it will work in Gordon's hands in the real word and not a rat maze.

hey, sorry to interrupt, but i just found something that might be a clue. I was playing through portal, just to see if i had missed something that might point in the direction of portal 2 or half life 2 episode 3. After completing each test chamber and going over each rat man nest with a fine tooth comb, i found nothing. So after defeating GLaDOS i watched the Still Alive video, and i noticed something that i didnt pick up on the first time around. one of the lines in the song goes as fallows "So I'm GLaD I got burned think of all the things we learned". glad is spelled the some way as GLaDOS. and correct me if im wrong but doesn't GLaDOS stand for "Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System"? so if we drop the "DOS" off of her name, we get GLaD, standing for "Genetic Lifeform and Disk". Now i dont know if your still fallowing me, but to me this means that GLaDOS has Burned herself onto a disk, and thats how shes still alive. She is now GLaD, and she got burned, onto a disk. Not sure if anyone else has made this connection yet, i looked around and didnt see anything on it.

That's very interesting, but highly unlikely in my opinion. How can you burn hardware onto a disc? Or is it her programming (software) that's on the disc.

I think the portal gun could possibly appear in episode 3. Maybe Gordon won't be the one using it, or it could be used in just a certain area. There might be a different kind of portal related technology in the Borealis that we haven't seen yet.

In my opinion, that's a bug in GLaDOS's software. Because she thinks "glad" is the beginning of her name (like when you type "mond" in MS Word and some date appears).

It would probably take quite a few different disks to store the artificial intelligence of GLaDOS on, not including her memories and other data, but I like this idea.
