heh, 2 weeks before the supposed release there's still no sign of a gone gold. appears everyone making that 2 week rule is wrong, unless an announcement is made later tonight.

If you imagine the speed of domestic CD and DVD writers these days, and imagine how much faster industrial CD and DVD pressers are, between the day it leaves Valves offices, and the day it's fully packaged and ready to be shipped, you're talking 4 days minimum, 10 days max. The manuals and all the other stuff could have been finished for weeks.

Why would they announce it has gone gold when they already told everyone it was going to be out Sept 30th?

Also, maybe it's going to be released over Steam first and then retail in which case it can go gold whenever they make enough off Steam

OH MY GOD HOW MANY TIMES
First of all, you're assuming there is a two-week rule, and secondly, you're assuming Valve would announce when the game has gone gold. My feeling is that Valve will issue a statement in a couple weeks simply saying, "Half-Life 2 has shipped and will be available for purchase at your local retailer September 30."Originally posted by indocomplexity
