nice to see apple finally coming to their senses and using somebody besides IBM/motorola design their chips ..hopefully with their adoption of the x86 architecture it'll mean more games coming to the mac sooner

please resist the urge to post comments along the lines of "apple sux!"

Apple sux!

But yeah... good move Apple! I've seen Mac OSX run on an intel and it was super fast. Not sure how good it is with games, but doing random tasks it was fast. That was on a P4 2.8GHz I think it was.

Now I just gotta wait for them to hack OSX so it will run on on AMD. :naughty:

Good move for Apple though, I think they are finally starting to take games seriously now too. X1600s in the new iMacs. The old ones only had x600s, and the ones before FX5200s I think. It's good to see them coming up to the current generation. And hopefully with the move to intel they will have more games ported over.

Why didn't they just go with AMD instead of Intel in the first place :(
AMD bettar D:

And a X1600? Pretty nifty for a notebook...

While Apple is not going to stop a windows from being installed on it, you first have to get a windows that supports it.

While the MACs sure are x86 machines now. Their BIOS is replaced with EFI instead.

EFI support on windows is currently only on Itanium editions.

So Apple is actually kinda clever. You can maybe get Microsoft to make a EFI based x86 system (Vista should support it), but nomatter what you have passed the ball. OSX on the other hand wont on systems without EFI. So no OSX x86 on regular PCs, clever one.

Our EFI coding can bootstrap to whatever OS is to be run on the hardware. The encryption is something like a Gibson setup, so MacOS will only run on Macs. And Windows won't, at first ;D

I hope that, now with intels, macs get more flexible and cheap, people start to buy them and software companies(specialy game industry) take more interest in making stuff for macs. As both PC and mac user I have to say:

video, music and image: Go with mac and be happy(just remeber, if yuo're going with Apple, its safer to go all the way. I already had problems with diferent brand's webcam(logitech), mp3 player(samsung), wireless router(D-link). It's amazing how you start to look at products' system requirements before you buy them when you got a mac.

Gaming: just take the blue pill, stick to Bill's world and forget about that cool white clean design :(

that quote in your post went above my head but it sounded like a mix of good news, bad news :(
oh well...its a step in the right direction? :dork:

Awsome...hopefully apple will be able to up the ante and be a real competitor now. More competition is always a good thing.

Mind you that if game companies make their games compatable with both windows and mac then it will take longer to develop...so in a sense it may not be the best thing for those of you that game on windows.
