Gamespot get wind of the companies changing the release dates, research it, confirm it and print it as news > Halflife2.net follows in suit after said well respected news site confirms it, by posting it as news on their front page too > Certain Half-Life2 community get wind of this, call Gamespot liars, claim once again they've confirmed it with Gabe and "It'S ALL FaLSE!!!1" and blame HalfLife2.net for faking the news.

I'm checking this with Gameplay. CT doesn't seem to know anything about this but he's looking into whether it was a proper publisher date or some peon changing it for the sake of it.
