Has anyone played this? I've got a CD with it somewhere (someone gave it to me among a bunch of other stuff) and I'm thinking of giving it a go.

Worth the time? :)

Its a good game, to bad its not very well balanced. Magic trumps technology all the time, I mean I got a spell that dealt could deal 30 times the toughest creatures hp in damage, if they resisted it they took half damage...

Shouldnt be that important if you play it singleplayer, just be aware that its so much easier to play a mage then a gunner.

Just avoid guns in general unless you download one of the mods that makes them more powerful.

There exists those? Can you point me in the right direction? Are there any mods that makes weapons in general more powerfull?

FANTASTIC rpg, from my ex-favorite rpg developer (they closed down :() worth at least a play through, so glad there's a thread on this game after all this time :D

Ah, yes. Several of my friends had this- I spent many a night playing it with them.

game is horribly buggy...

combat is retarded...

I've tried to like this game a couple of times but I eventuelle get tired of it...

"Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura" is like the most awkward name ever.

At first I was a bit confused and had this "umm wtf" feeling. I created a character, with some two basic spells from the "pure energy" tree and gave him some pistol (for a start; I was planning to focus on magic more) with 30 bullets.

So there I was shooting some wolves when I ran out of ammo by like the 4th one... I grabbed some melee weapon and tried fighting with that, also used the "jolt" spell that was supposed to dmg mobs in my vincinity, but quickly found out I get knocked off my feet after 2-3 uses, because I get fatigued... I also think the spell damaged my party member... o_O Anyway, I couldn't get past the first bigger pack of wolves so I thought "screw it", made a new char with a rapier and some melee skills, gave him two basic "fire magic" spells and switched the goddamn combat to "turn-based" and now it's fine.

I don't like the idea of getting fatigued and passing out after a few hits, then getting booted on the ground, but I guess I'll have to get used to it and pack some "fatigue regen" potions with me :P

Might be a fine game.

I'd love to try it but sadly do not have it.

Ok unfocused, here's how it works: If you concentrate on MAGICKAL skills like spells, potions and the like, they will be more efficient (potions will heal more, etc). If you go the TECHNOLOGICAL way, potions will, after time, be completely useless. However, if you get the herbal skills for technology, you can get some wicked healing salves that are very strong. I mainly went for technology, so I could make my own arms. (A repeating cannon is DEVASTATING, let me tell you that :p)

Mechanical arachnids are also pretty handy, but heavy. I never really felt that magick was overpowered because I never really used it that much, only to teleport :p

Does anyone remember the story of the gnomes and half-ogres?

Real freaky stuff there.

Heh, Prince mentioned it's buggy. Well, yesterday I had a "wtf moment", when after killing some zombies my party member started attacking a candelabre, damaging his weapon with each hit. I rushed towards the ladder to get out of the room, but he still managed to break his weapon and was on his way to killing himself (I guess his fists were taking damage now) o__O
