a probably stupid question, but are the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Editions actually 64 bit or 32 bit. i know they are intels retalliation to AMDs 64 bit range, and the EEs are basically Xeons altered to fit in socket 478.
i have some friends desperately trying to convince me the EEs are 64, but i dont really think so. (i might be wrong, who knows)

32bit.. they're extreme editions because they're the same CPU as the normal northwood pentium 4 but with a whole 2.5Mb of on die cache as opposed to the normal editions 520kb in total.

go amd, i just changed over, im a amd zealot now

i knew it! thanks. but im sure i read somewhere that the extreme is a redesigned xeon or something, but probably not.

The Extreme Edition CPU's are not redesigned Xeons... They ARE xeon CPU's!! Xeon CPU's have always been 32bit. You may be getting mixed up with the Itanium CPU which is the 64bit server CPU from intel.

well, what i meant by redesigned xeon was that they had to do something to it to make it socket 478 and chop down the 1mb L1 and 2MB L2 cache (if that is correct) to 16,512,2048. but nm, my questions been answered :) and im happy
