Are There Any Ways To Downgrade HL2's Graphics?

I understand that this is a crime against nature, but it runs painfully slow on my laptop. I'm in love with Half-Life 2, and I'd really like to be able to play it comfortably, with or without stunning visuals. I've tried turning all of the graphic settings to their lowest, and even playing it in windowed mode, it helps, but the loading times are still not up to par. Are there any mods that would allow me to downgrade Half-Life 2 visuals to something like Half-Life Blue Shift's which featured a "high definition pack"?

Windowed mode might not be the best option - often more resources are allocated to full screen apps. For a start, try running it in Direct X 8.1. Right click on the game in Steam, hit properties, and click Set Launch Options. In that box enter

vista on a 1.6ghz celeron......

source games like higher cpu speed more. my guess would be that he has something along the line of a radeon mobility 9000.
