Are trucks as popular in Europe as they are in North America/South America?

How popular are they in North America/South America?

Nobody in the world drives as many trucks as the southern states of the USA. In fact, if it was the entire rest of the world vs the southern states, the south would still have more.

And they all drive like idiots.

Juggalos drink Miller Lite. I learned something from this thread.

Generalizing ftw!

Anywho, when I was visiting Europe this summer I saw one pick-em-up truck in the three weeks I was there (was in Florence.)

Yeah. You're only being this way because you probably own a truck. You douche.

Another generalisation proven true by HL2.net.

So every single person who owns a truck drives like an idiot?

only in the south

Well every single person from the south who drives a truck drives like an idiot. But some people who drive a truck drive like idiots even if they're not from the south. I got forced off the road on a highway at 70mph by a Connecticut pickup truck a couple years ago because he wanted to pass me but started merging back into my lane before he was even halfway past me.

barely any trucks in the uk- we're a bunch of lightweights compared to america.

Oh, I thought you meant trucks

Yeah that got me too.
I'm fairly sure North America is the only place those giant utes are popular. No where else can afford to run them.

There is one pick up truck in working condition in my town, but that thing is huge, I mean really really huge. I think it's a Dodge ram, a red one.

I always think Im gonna collide with that thing, there would be nothing left of me :(

Not particularly. In the UK there are restrictions on how fast you can drive them as they are classified as commercial vehicles (10mph below the speed limit for non-commercial vehicles) for the most part. I live in a rural area, so there are more people with them than might be considered typical for the UK, but they're still not common. Those that are around are also not like a typical "yank-tank" truck, American models being almost entirely non-existant. Most are Japanese built, smaller both in size and engine capacity and diesel fueled. Things like Nissan Navaras, Mitsubishi L200s and Toyota Hilux.

People who might legitimately use a pick-up truck here tend to drive vans instead. And by 'vans' I mean 'white ford transit'.

Not many here drive them for the douche-appeal factor.

My cousin owns one, but he is a farmer, can't understand why anyone other than a farmer would own one.

Nope, especially not pickup trucks. The only ones driving those here are the Americans from the nearby airforce base.

the unwritten rule about pickups is that if they dont have a company decal/sign on the door panel the driver is most likely a douche

Heh.. I've met enough douche truck drivers that have a company decal on their truck so that's rather null and void for me.

so truck in the sense of a pickup truck or truck in the sense of big ass truck that carry loads?
the biggest I have seem are these kind

in my country you can find the bigass optimus prime like kind of trucks, almost all of before the 80's

I didnt want to over generalise by saying they're all douchebags ..but ya douchebaggery is common even with the decal

Nah trucks aren't that popular over here. Like someone said, most people have a van instead. More room for stuff in the back.

I hate trucks. So pointless unless you're a farmer with a family and such. I don't see why "soccer moms" and such buy 4x4 trucks if they never take them offline.

because most large suvs have 4 x 4 drive by default? no one ever bitches about soccor moms driving cars with AWD

Cars with AWD are a bit different. They don't have a large wheel base unless you're talking big luxury sedans (BMW 7 series/Mercedes S-Class) like trucks do. They also don't have huge beds that are otherwise unused by the majority of truck owners. Also, AWD cars don't have huge ride height and typically come in economical 4-cylinder engines with the exception of some V6 ones and the V8's in the luxury cars.

soccor moms often drive luxury suvs which come with AWD; they also dont take their suvs offroad like their 4x4 soccor mom counterparts

also I'm becoming a soccor dad as I'm taking my son to soccor on sunday in our 4x4 suv (before that we owned a awd suv)

Over here there's this stupid fad among people that have more money than avarage, to buy big hulking 4x4's. Nevermind the fact that it eats up fuel like a ****ing tank, and that the taxes on these monsters is murder, but what makes things even more nonsensical is that they don't ****ing need them. Take my small home town for example, it's rougly four square kilometers, with everyone at most 1-2 kilometers away from their workplace, and yet they have to drive these things every single day to work. It would make sense if they lived on a mountain or in the countryside, but in the city 4x4's are ****ing useless. But hey, I guess small fuel efficient cars aren't cool. /rant

Its the same in the UK, Remus. The so-called "Chelsea Tractors" are popular with that sort of demographic. Which is why the most foolish of motor vehicles, the soft-roader, exists. People who buy 4x4s that don't go off-road annoy me enough, let alone people who buy 4x4s which are utterly incapable of off-roading. There is no reason what so ever to own a soft-roader.

Gas in the US is cheaper than water, so a lot of people drive trucks because they can.

Most of the people who drive old, shitty trucks aren't that irritating. It's the Nissan Titan with silvered rims and a shiny new paintjob that's usually driven by a douche with no road awareness. I live in the suburbs of Fort Worth, so there's a lot of large land plots with cattle and horses so it can be classified as agricultural land (meaning no property tax). Those people usually have trucks to use for horse hauling and such.

Decals on trucks down here usually mean lawn services or contractors, which usually means a trailer, which usually means Mexicans, which usually means they have no license, which usually means they drive as fastidiously as possible to avoid getting pulled over and butt-****ed by the INS.

Offroading with a truck or large SUV is a ****ing joke. They usually have shit ground clearance and are too long to maneuver properly. Anyone who's serious about offroading gets a Jeep or another small SUV.

Yeah, I was going to say. When I lived in rural Scotland, there still weren't that many people driving pick-ups; if they needed to carry materials around they'd have a van or a larger truck with the license for it. My dad just used a Volvo estate.

When I stayed in America I wasn't at all surprised by the staggering number of trucks I saw, but only because the country's cultural hegemony means we all know exactly what it looks like over there anyway.

Having owned both a truck and a small fuel efficient car I can say that the truck is way more fun. I don't haul stuff all over the place but it's nice to have the ability to when need be. The little 4 banger was basically useless for anything other then being a slow ass taxi.

Honestly though.....

So much better.

the 4 banger seems like a quick little rocket (city driving) in comparison to a behemoth that handles like a shopping cart
