Are Vivendi the ONLY ones who want to wait for the 16th?

It seems that many stores, including my local EB games, already have HL2 in stock but cannot sell it until the 16th. Valve cannot activate HL2 until the 16th even though many retailers already have it and I'm sure they would like to activate it earlier.

Are Vivendi executives the only ones who want to wait until the 16th so that they do not lose money to Steam sales because there might still be retailers who don't have the game yet? If so, f*ck them, they're holding everyone back! :flame:

As much as I hate to admit it, it makes sense to keep the release date, especially this close. Otherwise it wouldn't be fair to those retailers who didn't break the date, or people who don't near live any that have.

I want the game as much as the other five billion HL2ers, I think I can wait out 2 more days. More suspense :D

Exactly. :D

Waited this long, what's another few days? VU have done bugger all wrong and are well within their right to make Valve wait til the 16th.

If stores allow people to buy the game before they are meant to, then it isn't VU's fault if they have to wait to play it - blame the idiots in the shops who don't seem to have a brain between them.

I would bet my house that we don't see it til the time it was originally intended for.

I think VU is doing the right thing despite what the fans say...

Yeah I know it sucks you have the game and you can't play it, but how is that valve or VU's fault. Blame the idiots in the stores that can't read the

"HL2 DO NOT STOCK UNTIL 11/16/04"

signs posted all over the container.

edit-and for the people who haven't been following HL2 development and bought the game, too bad, you should have done some searching before you bought the game, I know I don't buy a game unless I know about it. Besides its a 2 day wait whats the big deal. After 6 years of waiting 2 days shouldn't be an issue.

The bet is Off. :D

wow Doug L. blatantly put the blame on Vivendi. Not very good for Vivendis reputation. The battle between the two is getting NASTY

I'd like to point out that I understand the need to wait... but damnit, I want it now.

I don't care about "we've waited years, so a couple of days won't make any difference," because time drags more as you get closer to the release date. The last month is bad enough, but the last week feels just as bad. The last day will feel like the last week and the last few hours will feel like ages. In fact, the couple of minutes it takes to unlock your copy of Half Life 2 will appear to last for approximately thirty seven thousand years.

you know guys...blaming vivendi not for releasing HL2 3 DAYS EARLY!!!, is stupid. Complete and utter pointless crap.

This may sound weird but..I would like to wait until the 16th..cause I like a date I can say that the greatest game on the PC of all time came out...also I have homework to do (a big 12 page report on a lab.) Oh ya and a test on the 15th...so I would like to study. So I would very much like the 16th..almost perfect timing.

Guys, Vivendi has a job to protect smaller retailers. If they allow it open now the smaller retailers who either (a) have not received the game or (b) have been honest and NOT sold the game yet, would be hurt.

BB and others selling the game now are the ones you need to be mad out.

They first broke a release date. They are selling a product that WONT work until the 16th. And they are doing this to SCREW their competition.

As much as I WANT the game NOW, I hope they hold fast until the 16th. I hope BB and others who sold it get a TON of returns with OPEN CDs. Why? Because the game does not work... yet they cannot return them to Valve because they have been ACTIVATED. That way BB and other have to BITE the bullet of a TON of false sales. To top it all of they get a bad rep :)

I may not like Vivendi (they have a history of messing with developers), but this is not their fault. BLAME the retailers.

the only reason vivendi doesn't want it unlocked now is because they don't want to lose any more sales to steam. that's it.

Some retailers might not be to blame. At Target (Where I work) alot of times street dates slip, mainly because the boxes have no mention of a street date. We are instructed to put it out unless it has an orange "Do not sell Before" sticker on it. Surely I know it comes out the 16th, but if it has no sticker, stores cannot be fined, etc.

Best Buy has it in their system as active, and even let me return one of my CE copies earlier.

Man with out VU we could have been playing HL2 in late September maybe even earlier.

1. Not all stores have the game (e.g. some BB do, some do not).

2. Smaller retailers would be hurt.

So that is not the only reason. The game is not ready for a full release because not all retailers in all areas have it. And the reality is I bet 90% of those who are going to get it by Steam within the next 30 days already have it on their system. Joe Smoe wont be getting it from Steam because he does not know about steam. He does know EB, Gamestop, Walmart, Target, and so forth and with pick it up when it is available.

I am more interested in who told BB, Walmart, Target, etc... the game can be released now OR who did not make a big enough effort to make sure it shipped on the right date. I am suprised VUG did not ship HL2 with Nov. 16th stickers...

I think that's absolute rubbish.

As you can see a lot of people already made their minds up about how they wanted to purchase the game long before this issue came to light. The plan always seemed to be to simultaneously release the game everywhere at the same time so just because a few stores have slipped the game out early doesn't mean they should change their plans. They have published games before - they know what they are doing.

I returned my CE because I saw my brother's and didnt like it, and would rather go for the Steam Silver Package.

He loves it. DVD alone is worth the price he says. I think he is nuts.

I agree, just wondered if you had a problem with a copy or something.
