Are we dreaming in "real-time" or via some sort of pattern?

Are we dreaming in "real-time" or is there any kind of Determinism?

Hello, Ive been thinking about a dream i had tonight and a theory came to me ..

First of all my dream:

In it i was in my classroom and the teacher gave us the exams we did.. (he returned them with grades on them of course).
When the teacher approached me he mumbled somthing toards me but i didnt get it.. I didnt look at the grade before i got home and when i did it showed 96\100, the next day I talked to the teacher and somehow we talked about my grade and i told him i was very surprised from it.. then he told me: "why would you be so surprised? i mean i told you you got 97\100 when I handed you the exam yesterday's?!"

(Well i hope your still with me here), From this dream i Concluded that the dream was following a certain pattern before i even started dreaming it. In other words- Till this day i was CERTAIN each of my dreams progressed in real time (with no Determinism Whats or Ever) but here its supports Determinism significantly.
I Will appriciate it if you guys can tell me some of your Dreams and classify them as - via realtime \ via Pattern.

bah I somehow find it very intresting i hope this thread wont die on me in 2-3 hours.

Actualy, if, lte's say, all youe stressful dreams that you dreamt this week are interpreted(translated) right, they will indicate on the same thing. And this also doesn't depend of weather one of your dreams was about a grave yard and the other - about Vietnam.

As a matter of fact, all of the dreams that you dreamt during the course of your life are intreconnected even if you don't see a logical connection. You will see the connection only then, when you interpret it.

So if i understand correctly, you are saying that your brain makes up the dream and you just watch it...rather than playing it out through the brief part of the night you actually dream?

If that is what you are saying, then i would say we dream in "Real-Time". I mean, ive had dreams where ive been half awake or at least had some kind of control over what im seeing. So in the dream i change events and such as if it was real life, and actually believe that im not dreaming.


I find the dream world very facsinating. We know so little, yet it seems such an important part of out lives. Our subconcious is so powerful and we dont even know it...right now its generating the sentences that im typing. i could have chosen from so many things to say right now and i chose this. Yet...How did i think up these things? I didnt conciously think about each letter and how it all fits together. Its amazing. Like, how do you catch a ball? imagine conciously plotting its course and velocity and where you arm needs to be and how it needs to move. Then you have to think about what to do with your hand, it would just be overwhelming.
