Are you a casual or hardcore gam0r?

Play for the exhilaration of defeating (or completing) the game Hardcore gamers will play persistently for the enjoyment and exhilaration of defeating the game, and are likely to be more forgiving of aesthetic flaws such as poor acting or a trivial plot. This can be measured by asking subjects to rate the relative importance to them of a number of factors in their motivation for continuing to play a given game (not for choosing to purchase the game). If "I want to beat/finish it" is considered highly important, the subject is more likely to be a hardcore player.

If i was shown only that, i would say im not a hardcore gamer. A bad plot generally makes for bad gamplay in my view. I dont just play games to beat them, i like to enjoy them. Appreciating the effort that was put into the game is a big part of the enjoyment.

My gaming habits are somewhat weird.

For example, I haven't played a game online for um, about a month now. Probably more. Simply because I can't be bothered to play one, even though I regard myself as a gamer. However, when I do play a game and indeed, decided that is the game for me, I will play it to the best of my ability and take it seriously. I spent years playing for fun and to be honest it gets dire. A level of hardcore competition, strong organization and foolproof tactics add so much more to an otherwise limited game.

Clan wise, I've been in several clans for fun and semi-pro. I've ran three clans, one being the "#1 in Europe" and two which took the title "#1 in the world". All of these clans took so much of my time and dedication but in my opinion, paid off. I doubt I could be bothered to start a fourth clan though simply because looking at the effort I'd have to put in is just .. off-putting.

If TF2 is the only MP aspect of HL2 then I'll be heading off to Tribes3 and I'll certainly be looking for a serious clan within a game like that. You haven't lived until you've experienced a semi-pro/pro clan for a multiplayer team game like the Tribes Series.

I guess I am a hardcore gamer.... But then its not like i spend my whole life on the PC.....

I think I am a bit weird too.....

I just love tp play some games (Desert Combat) but others I can't stand for more than 15 mins at a time...(CS)

I play alot but at random times and with regular breaks.
I know alot about technical stuff considering, but I don't actively look it all up.
I post on this forum alot, but on no others at all....

I am just plain weird....

Im not a gamer. I play just a few hours every month. I play for about 5 hours on a 4 day lan.

I played a lot of games when i was young, but not anymore, i only write games now :)

I'm somewhere in between aswell.. And that article is freaky. Like it was discussing whatever science and stuff else ..

So now you have become a dealer! *runs*

I play for fun. and doing slow-pause kung fu - smg combos in TS killing my opponent with like 15 shots before I touch the ground. those rock.

I'm a hardcore gamer, but I'm not very competitive so I still have to find the actuall game fun to carry on playing it, joining a clan just makes the competition harder, whith the exception of tribes 2 where the difference between playing in a clan and just playing on a public server is quite noticeable in terms of tactics and gameplay.

I imagine HL2's MP is going to be quite good, even if it's TF2 which I'm not that fond of the original. I'm not buying HL2 for the MP though, especially as I will end up playing Team killers and people generally just interested in pissing you off.
