i was just wondering if i was the only one...
and can anyone help me get over my fear??

Yeah, I was even afraied to play HL because of the zombies and randomly theleporting headcrabs.

I'm afraiâ ùà any game that has non-human opponents.

I don't get scared anymore, I get invigorated, and thats when I am at my best!

I don't think I'll play Doom 3 because of it. HL wasn't scary at all. I may get doom 3 for modding, and play through on god mode or something. I don't find getting scared entertaining, but adventure/suspense/action is fine.

scary games and or films are great, the more it can scare me the more i like it..... the next morning when the sun is up of course ;)

Few games get me scaryed anymore, most scary games (res evil for example) rely on shock treatment, much like those annoying flash images that scream at you or something, makes you jump but your not frightened

Im hopeing Doom 3 will change that, from the videos and screenshots, it look like it will, with the good shaddows and lighting, as well as great gfx and sound :)

It's really not that scary...but just deal with it. What's gonna happen? Is your computer monitor conna eat you? I don't think so...

HL1 wasn't scary..it just sometimes made me jump when a headcrab would jump outta nowhere.

Being scared is much more fun than not being scared.

Being scared makes you feel more alive... Like when a cop pulled me and some friends over...all the passengers (including me) were totally wasted..but the cop didn't notice. He just stopped my friend for a misaligned headlight. It scared the shit out of us when he immediately asked him if it was his vehicle and to step out of the car...but he was just showing my friend his crooked headlight. I was scared shitless at the time...but I was able to laugh about it afterwards..

man...

Most games have freaked me out at some point...

some are reasonable, System Shock 2 (still haven't finished it, actually barely started. need time to play it)
Shadar Logoth in Wheel of TIme...
the first time I met the flood in Halo...
The Thing got me once

Half Life didn't really. Made me jump sure, but didn't creep me out.

There have been games that I have had to turn off though, just creepy. :)

odd thing is, Games can creep me out fairly easily, but I've yet to see a single movie that can do it. X-Files did when I was about 8 or 9...but since then. nothing.

come to think of it, games and roaches are the only things that can creep me out. :D

Movies can be scary. Games have yet to come even come close to scaring me.

Just make it into a joke. Think about how zombies seem so retarded and skulls look like they are smiling.

A human with a Machine gun and a couple grenades vs a coulpe zombies, Drr who do u think isgoing to when, if ur scared ur just run and avoid it, if ur l33t ur duck jump their ass, drop a nade and run like hell!! If ur super l33t u would rip of their arms and beat the crap out of them matrix kungfoo style, eat THEIR BRAINS for once and pee on the corpse!!!

i love scary games and movies :)

mostly they don't scare me.. but there are exceptions to that.. like Undying.. i was watching my friend play this one part.. it was quite spooky :)

but generally.. i don't get scared much now... though i do enjoy em :)

I remember awhile ago me and a mate hired Res Evil 2 and Micro Machines V3 for PSX, we got home late and dad had set up all skulls and candles and shit, bastard :P We played Micro Machines most that night, it was so damn freaky. I got it off a mate again a couple years back and clocked it no prob, little creeped out in parts but not so much to keep me from playing. Half-Life definitely has never creeped/freaked me out, cept I was jumpy round the headcrab bits :D

Nice thread! I get scared sometimes when playing like Silent Hill, HL got me a few times, I too got scared when battling the flood for the first time hehe.. I can get really freaked out/scared from some games and movies... I feel ashamed for it sometimes.

To overcome your fear? One thing that almost everytime work for me in games is to; run around in the game yelling out loud with your big MG "YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME??!! DO YA?! COME TO PAPA I'LL TREAT YOU GOOD YOU MOTHERF**KERS!!!! RETARDS! F**K, I'LL BLAST YER HEADS OF YOU F**KING F**KERS!!! " And fire your MG at everything that moves... It makes the whole thing fun! I remember how I and a friend laughed when I was doing this technique against some zombies in HL... Heheh..

BTW: Anyone else but me that gets freaked out sometimes when you suddenly encounter an enemy in Max Payne 2?

all scary game arn't scary and are easy to complete and thats what makes them shit to play or watch.
i don't know how eny one could be scared by them.
and if eny of you are explain it to me please

P.S. eny one Who answers this must be a bit of a pussy

Not really.. whenever a guy or two would get me by surprise I'd get pissed off. I'd immediately dive behind something and try to kill the sneaky bastard.

well said mrchimp

ARE YOU SCARED NOW
MOOOHAAAAAAAA

I got scared from Nocturne, Silent Hill, Res Evil 2...
Changed my life for good :(

Most games don't scare me. There is the occasional reaction when something jumps out of a dark corner when you're not expecting it, but to me, that's just reactions and not fear. What I hope Doom 3 does to me is freaking scare the hell out of me. I want to be able to say that I got scared of a game so much that I shat my pants and needed to start wearing adult daipers.

I wish I had a kryptonite cross. That way I could defend against vampires and Superman.

I use the "buddy system" for scary games.

I'm with you, only way I'll play scary games is with friends so we can both get freaked out :D

SS2 was/is a creepy game, mainly because it is unrelenting and the zones are never 'safe'. The sound and the logs of the dead crew add a lot to the atmosphere also.

I never really thought of HL as scary, but certainly it has it headcrab filled moments of surprise :sniper: :imu:

yesss Nocturne was a very scary game! glad someone else has played it.

i generally don't get scared much by games, HL didn't scare me, AvP didn't scare me. but games like SS2, Nocturne, Thief and Barbie's Adventure totally make me want to shit my pants right there and then. the only parts in HL when i was scared were at the parts where there were huge drops beneath you, like out on the canyon ledge and in that giant wind tunnel. i was on the edge of my seat muscles tensed making each move carefully incase i fell. of course it seems stupid but that's immersion for you.

Haha! I have cursed out my opponents in surprisingly scary games..

Man.. I get so freaked out.. but I play good when I have a buddy with me.. *hugs closest person..

i like the buddy system!! very relaxing.... especially when the friend plays and i watch :p.... but i don't think that my mom would appreciate all the scream of the cuss words late at night :p

em how can you be scared of some 1's and 0's ?

if you really want to get technical.....how can you become scared from electrical impulses and chemicals like adrenalin?

or the soundwaves and lightwaves.......that trigger those things......

I'm surprised how many people are of the afraid variety, considering the level of inherent HL playingness in this crowd.

Nearly 'scary' all games have the "surprise!" trick, but a few use good (dark) lighting and and sound effects to a nice aprehensive effect. HL, Stalker & Doom look like they can deliver in spades in those respects. Here's hoping they're actually flat-out scary.

IMO the Garg is probably the most frightening enemy to fight out there, especially considering his awesome speed and near-unstopability. The simple fact that he is better than you in nearly every respect, and that there is no 'shoot the glowing spot' trick to defeating him, makes him really freaky in a psychological way.
I hope the striders end up that way in HL2.

I guess the Garg can be a little scary to some people, but not so much to me. Nothing in HL really came close to scaring me, but I did dread the Ichthyosaur because I felt defenseless in the water, and the Tentacles because of the suspenseful 'tap tap tap' and their near invulnerability. SS2 was a scary game, probably the scariest so far.

u should've made a poll option saying "yes they scare me but i still play them." Playing resident evil a while back scared the crap out of me, especially when i rented a game cube the 1 time just for the new res evil. Its a scary monkey. Anyways, doom is gonna make me crap my pants, but i dont overly enjoy being scared, but i can't pass up doom after the screenshots i've seen, i think its got hardcore scare potential. The thing was a scary game for sure, especially with the dark mood it sets. HL only made me jump occassionally with headcrabs jumping out of vents, but never really scared me

crab: I wasn't getting technicle I was simply saying games arn't real so there's no real threat. :smoking:

i know dude....i just felt like argueing for the hell of it :monkee:

mrchimp you obviously aren't getting yourself immersed in games as much as you should. for me, games scare me a lot more than a film ever would, simply because it's me doing all those things, not some mtv presenter running away from a monster.

find a copy of System Shock 2 and tell me you don't get scared.

i think the key to getting scared from a game......is having a good stereo ..and a dark room.

a 19'+ monitor helps...

Silent Hill didn't make me get any huge shocks, but the creepy sound effects, the foggy weather in Silent Hill and the rotten rooms in the hospital made me get Goosebumps all over my body! WARGH!!!

If I try to make myself scared it just becomes humerus, as for systemshock 2 I'v only played part of the demo and it was a long time ago. I'v been trying to find a copy of that game for ages.
