HL1 didn't have any special DM. It was all about the mods.

Even if Valve released HL2 with the same type of boring MP that came with HL1, I wouldn't care because it is the gaming community that will make it special and bring us the Counter-Strikes and the DOD's.

I don't understand what the big deal is.

Valve WILL NOT chince out on us guys, they know what we want, they know they have to deliver a game that will impress us. That is what they are dedicated to doing. It's their goal.

And to all the people who said it would make economic sense to release the game with TF2 or whatever, VALVE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT MAKING MONEY.

We will have our HL2 themed multiplayer, and I am sure they will include some interesting modes. (Combine vs Resistance)

Alright, I find it almost funny that Doom3 can pop up in a thread about MULTIPLAYER...

After reading that quote (and by gut instinct), I have decided to expect some HL2 based multiplayer.... we'll see what happens.
I'll also defend CS as I think that it is a brilliantly designed game and has earned it's popularity. When it came out it had a fresh new idea, addictive team, casual or lan play, good production value and most importantly: well designed gameplay.
I'd like to see original ideas in MP but one person's idea of original might not be original to someone else... not to mention that it's hard work designing original gameplay (and stil fun).

I like CS. If CS:S is $5-$10...I'd buy it and I think loads of other people would too.

I hope that HL2 MP is going to be set in the HL universe somehow. Although an objective based mp sorta like RTCW doesn't seem to fit HL2's style. I hope it's something inventive and not overdone. Something that has depth yet simple. Something that rewards your efforts, yet doesn't make it a huge factor. Something that any player can pick up and have fun, yet pro's can play on an entirely different level.

All these characteristics make up a winning formula that is seen in the most popular MP game to date. Yeah, some may disagree with me here, but this is what CS brings to the table...and what many other MP games fail to accomplish.

I hope that there's flexibility in map-making to allow for players to make up their own game modes within individual maps. Something like the a team of manipulator users vs a big guy with extra hp and guns. Whoever gets the kill, becomes the big guy (done before, but it'd be nice to see the community have flexibility with game modes).

I just hope there's a regular DM to just say, "Screw all the rules, I'm gonna kill everyone I see!"

also why wouldent they use it if they had nothing elese... make hl2 perfect instead of just releasing two seprate products

If Valve wants the extra money, they'll dish out a good mp. Otherwise people would just buy the sp-only version. Simple as that.

3 and 4 are practically the same.. i have played loads of online games.. including ut2k4, q3, dod (for 30 mins then uninstalled), tf, cod, et, bf1942 + all expansions, neverwinter nights, blablabla .. i still play most of them.. but if i had to choose between all those, or cs.. i would choose cs .

it just kind of burns me up the way people say "omg cs sucks.. graphics are shit, and people who play it are idiots" or something like that.

for one thing.. if you dont like it just dont play it.. its not like you're going to break our hearts by not playing.

if i check gamespy now.. 124,163 players on cs (most played game). after that in second place is cod 12,636 players etc .. so i guess those thousands should all stop playing cause u dont like the game.

anyway.. not trying to convince anyone to play the game.. i just hate it when they just whine with invalid reasons etc.

Actually, if it was an 80/20 percent range chance, it would favor a multiplayer mode of some kind.

The stolen build supports this.

Multiplayer model animations. Static Player meshes with z-buffer movement. Netcode for vehicles, physics, players, etc. Working scoreboard system. New chat system. Multiplayer console commands.

Don't give me any crap about posting information from a stolen build. If someone is going to make a post naming 80/20 that they call fact, then I am going to prove them wrong.

Cut the crap. Stop saying there won't be any vanilla multiplayer for HL2. Its insane, and marketing suicide. Oh, and don't forget that you can't mod different games inside of the same client. Users would have to exit HL2 back to windows, go to the steam games selection menu, and select a different game. Your saying Valve will call that Half-Life 2's multiplayer? Please...that's just stupid thinking. Anyone who believes that should be nailed to a cross.

So Valve didn't show off HL2's multiplayer at E3? Why should they. They have been keeping a cap on it for so long...what's the point in releasing anything more, when they can possibly blow everyone away with the soon release. I'm sure that no developer in their right mind would forget a multiplayer feature in a FPS. Especially valve who want to give the same long life to their new game as their old game. It's a tried and tested formula - so why the hell would they screw it up?
