area portals. help with compile

Well after waiting 20 minutes for my compile this happens when cs:s loaded up
*errornum_areaportals* and then in the compile window it said my area portals werent connected which they were.. i followed the tutorials to the cent..

any help?

you don't have to do a big compile to see if area portals give you errors. do a bsp compile no vis no rad next time.

your current area portals may be fine, but if theres a leak in the area, then the portals won't be touching 2 sides. theres no way for us to help you unless you provide at least some screens of the area
 
Yeah one of your area portals might have detail hanging out of it or a small crack or even complicated geometry that is sposed to seal. Make them nice and blockey with brushes and funk detail whatever else.
 
Does it matter if there is a window in the room?... some of the rooms had windows.. but the area portals were on the doors.. *windows werent breakable.

i also would like to add a question here and not waste another thread..

How do you choose which way the door slides? grab the little blue ball?
 
just imagine a little fly that can go anywhere in your level except through area portals and world brushes. if you put this fly in your level, can he reach 2 sides of 1 portal? if so you need to seal up your area with more area portals or world brushes until that fly can only touch 1 side.

whats happening in your case is the fly touches one side of your area portal. then sees your window, goes through it, touches the other side, and then you're screwed. put area portals in the windows.
 
ok ive tried putting in the area portals in the windows.. but you cant link them to the windows cause they arent entities with names.. so i just placed one where the window is and it flucked up again..

Area portals are t3h flucking me.
 
Area portals cant be grouped together, and you cant make an areaportal be glass, becuase then its not an areaportal anymore
 
you dont have to link area portals to windows or doors, they can be just regular area portals that are open.
 
just for a test block up your windows keep them there just block over them and see how you go. I dont know much about slideing doors but rotating doors you just move the blue button. Also you might have to get the doors to target the ap's, maybe not. Have a look for a tut. Even better leave the level your working on and do a test map with a simple room and one door and an outside area. Work on that one door and progress from there.
