My dad made me take a job that I really, really, really, really, really don't want.
He acted like I had a choice, he was like "come to work with me and just see what the job is, so I went, and as soon as the manager came up he was like "he'll start friday".. He works there too but he is high up and gets paid good money. I however will be "shovelling shite" so to speak making maybe 100 dollars a week if i'm lucky (still working 40 + hours mind you) Since I don't have a car, I can't look elsewhere at the moment, but me and my m8 have been going every week applying at different places. So now I can't find anything else... If i quit he will disown me, i'm stuck in the hell hole, and it ruins all my plans ;(
I won't be able to save anything up at all because less than 400 a month, over half will go to him since i still live with him, and whats left will have to go bills.. I live in the middle of nowhere so i can't go get an apartment or something and i feel like jumping in front of a fast moving truck! I hate my life :angry:

Washing dishes, and cleaning old people! (blah) Its at a nursing home, i'll probably have to "change" their cloths when they puke/use the bathroom on themselves... etc.

Yeah I think so.I used to work at a web design place doing 3d work, but we finished the contract and they didn't need me anymore... But since then my car blew up, and i can't drive to "town" to get a proper job, unless my m8 can get me on with him... But the factory he works at is on downtime so they aren't hiring.... man i'm so depressed this just ruined this whole month for me, i was supposed to go to florida with friends but i can't now, I was supposed have free time to work on an unreal mod, can't now, i'm just going to go jump off a bridge (if i could find one close... i'd have to walk about 40 miles)

I was in exactly the same situation as you right down to the smallest detail, i told him that i hated the job and it wasn't what i was told it was going to be, that i didn't want to do the job anymore, half my money went to him and the other half on bills and i quit, packed my stuff and got on the first train back home. I am not living with my mum, work in a crappy supermarket but i have friends and money and a life, finding a nice local full time job though.

haha sucks to be you, i used to work with my dad but i was working from 6:00am to 5:00pm every weekday and half that on Saturday during the whole summer but i was making around 5 to 600 hundread every 2 weeks. still working with family has to be one of the worst things to do.

This is impossible. The US minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. For a 40 hour week this works out to $206. If this is true you could sue this company for a lot more money than that, or at least get them in trouble and force them to up your pay.

Social security and other taxes are automatically subtracted from your paycheck. $5.15 is the minimum amount that you get in your pocket. Federal taxes that you have to pay on April 15 (such as income tax) are another matter however. Seeing as you only make minimum wage, these would only apply to you, if you have other sources of income such as a trust fund or stock dividends.

Do you mean actually physically cleaning old people? Because for a 19 year old (if that's in fact your age) that is not something to be taken lightly. Most people I know who work in the social sector do it because they have a strong sense of duty and obligation to take care of the weak and underpriviliged.

If your dad forces you to do something like this I think he is crossing a line here... :frown:

And i'm 21 actually. I don't think I should have to work there. He argues that I need the money to go out and do stuff and save up for school etc. etc. But doing a job I hate and making peanuts and being stuck there because I can't leave due to offending him and not having a means to go anywhere else doesn't really give me much time or money to save or spend

Well in your position I might consider the army or police force.

Whith your skills you should be able to get a pretty deceant job in the army as a technition of some kind, I think the American army will pay your school bills and will train you in whatever role you will take. you might have to do basic training regardless of what you do, but it can't be worse than cleaning old people. Also you might have to stay in the Army for 6-12 years but I'm not sure about that either.

Sorry Innervision I know he's your dad and all but there's no fecking way i'd put up with that shite.
Its your life and you should be able to live it the way you want, I'd rather move out than cleaning old people everyday.
You need to sit your dad down and tell him exactly how you feel and tell him you dont wont 2 fall out with him but there is no way you can do this job as it makes your life unbearable.

Meh... I wash dishes at a nursing home. F***ing hate it, too. I get about $125 every two weeks... that's approx. 20-26 hours of work every pay period. I'm going to quit, as soon as I get a new job. Hopefully Starbucks will call me back soon...
