Arghhh- lost saved game point

I'm sooooo aggravated, my brother came round last night and we started discussing HL2. I offered to give him a demo, I showed him differing points in the game but.... you guessed it autosave wiped the several levels I had completed. I was just in the prison where you have three sentinels and you are attacked by lots of soldiers. Is there a way to get my saves back or can I download a completed game's saves and choose a point close to where I was at?

just type in the console:

sv_cheats 1; changelevel d3_prison_01 (or 02, 03...etc). that will take you to the set level. then turn cheats off, and u will be able to start a new game from any level up to there.

That was fast, sorry but how do I turn cheats off after finding the correct level?

just then type in sv_cheats 0

Make sure you quicksave next time - these can't get wiped unless you actually wipe them yourself.

Brilliant, thanks. I'd been stuck on that level for a while so I left it for a few days to calm down. Losing my save points just added to my misery!
