Arrests Made In Relation To Half-life 2 Theft

Damn man... I bet hes shitting bricks right now, he probably wishes he never did it in the first place, maybe he can learn his lesson now.

Too late though, damage was done, nothing can undo it. Hopefully the game will be even better for it.

i think they should thank the hackers... nothing could have make me want the game more than the build itself... all those unplayable maps... gaaaar

EDIT- on a more serious note, well, i guess i'm glad they were caught...

What's with all the "anal" suggestions around here? they just stole a game for crying out loud it's not like they're convicted serial killers.

You do know what happens in prison cells at night Para?

No, tell me.

And posey it's amazing, you actually can make posts that meet the 10 character requirement, I'm impressed.

ouch good one. except for my history of making long posts. other than that though you got me

i dunno how most of u feel around here.. but im getting the impression that in general cyber-theft does not hold the same weight as say.. stealing from a store.

perhaps stiffer punishments are in line?

cyber theft is worse, because the damage is far greater per-single theft.

glad they were tracked down but..
ITS TIME TO MOVE ON! ya know what i mean??
*cough*release*cough*

I can see it all now...

JUDGE: "This court finds you GUILTY. Bailiff, drop these miscreants into the pit."
HACKER: "Pit?!?! What PIT?!?! <Starting to panic> What's in the pit?! Bugs?! Snakes?!?! LIONS?!?!?!"
JUDGE: "Ha! Nothing so mundane. We have a pit full of...HALFLIFE 2 FANBOIS!"
HACKER: "NOOOOOOOOO! Cruel and unusual punishment!!!!!"

Eh, um...sorry. :cheese:

Wow, it even made the BBC front page, like as if it was real news! Signs that computer games are becoming a viable entertainment medium ;)

BBC said:
The thieves are believed to have got hold about one-third of the computer code for the highly-anticipated game.

Hooray for BBC misinformation.

Well if they serve time in the US they aren't going to be playing HL2 for a long time, most of the people convicted of cyber crime and banned from accessing computers while in jail then when there out it's ageist there probation for a couple of years and if there caught on a computer they go back to jail.

If I remember correctly, the video game industry made more money than the movie industry last year. I'd say video games don't need to make the cover of the BBC to prove they're a viable entertainment medium. :E

To all those who live in England:
This news was mentioned in that new quiz show, The Cram. It was rather cool to see - idiot got it wrong tho - he thought it was Lara Croft :)

Meanwhile, on the BBC news link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3797167.stm, they describe Gordon as a "hapless lab assistant" - humoured me rather :sniper:

EDIT: They also say "In e-mail messages posted to a Half-Life 2 fan website" ... would that possibly be this one? And, uh, 'e-mail messages'??
For some reason they also link to the old HL website - go, BBC! :p

EDIT 2: Having said that, the BBC actually link to these exact forums elsewhere :) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3162074.stm

I saw HL2 on CNN news about teh theft... it was pretty cool !11!
