I don't know if this is new or old. I'm having trouble keeping up with the processor war. According to this article the Intel Conroe or whatever it's called can outperform AMD's $1000 CPU, the FX-62. The Conroe will apparently be $300 or so it is rumored. I guess it's not even out yet?

It's out now, and yes the Conroes do outperform the Athlons.

AMD is going to massively reduce prices however.

Intel basically completely redesigned there new processor, Conroe. Rather being extremely quick and hot like the P4 architecture it is very efficient like the Amd 64 architecture.

AMD already dropped their prices a few days ago and Intel will be launching the CPUs tomorrow. There are a few threads on this already. hehe

When Intel launched their new Core 2 Duo CPU (Conroe) their prices where a lot lower than AMD's expecially for the performance. However before they were launched AMD dropped prices across the board. The only CPU (that isn't discontinued) that is above the E6600 Core 2 Duo's price is the FX CPU at $800.

The X2 5000+ dropped from 700ish to about $300. The X2 4600+ is $240, X2 4200+ $190, and the X2 3800+ $150. So these CPUs are competitive with Intel's Core 2 Duo performance across their price range. Although Core 2 Duo can OC a lot. ;)

Not even a year ago I bought a Amd Athlon 3500+ for what $300? Damn damn damn.
