OK, Just started a little project. this is about three hours work. (Started at 11pm, stopped at 1:30 am) Not done, still have the rest of the planets to do...

Note I'm not going for realism here, but just an artist look at the solar system

Amazing work a2597. Three hours is pretty fast in my opinion.

all done in blender.

with a *little* (Very little needed) post in photoshop

unfortionatly the stars show how fast you did them..

Wow, those are really good! we have some very tallented people on these forums!

more of, first time ever doing them in this manner.

Whats Blender? And what's wrong with the stars?

to further explain, blender is a freeware opensource 3d modeling, animation, rendering, and game creation suite.

and it's only 2 megs in size. :) www.blender3d.com

What did you do to make the textures of the planets?

They look like those stock planet images you can download.. I'd be impressed if he created them from scratch but I'm 99.9% sure those are specially created textures using actual image data from the NASA probes. Except maybe Saturn.

yea, nasa data
Well they look very nice either way, impressed they were done with Blender too, thats the one program I could never quite wrap my head around, though granted I only looked at it briefly, wasn't for me.

Cool pics though :):)

This is real art. Beautiful. 'Nuff said.

/Me has chosen a new wallpaper

Cool shit bro. I like the tones, earthy, warm, easy on the eyes. At first I thought they were real and you just tinted it brown. Good work man.

here's mercury
I like it, apart from the lens flare. And I've never been in space but I always thought the sun looked bigger from mercury? I dunno, never been :)

should post this stuff on deviantart.. there's a lot of ppl that go crazy for astronomy and that sort of stuff over there

It's all about perspective Fenric. I'm sure if you were on the planet it'd be pretty damn huge but at an angle like that, and from space I don't think that's too small. Although this does inspire me to ask, are you going to make one for the sun as well?

I would like to... :)

as well as some original planets

for one, the Sol system doesn't have any nebula...

for another, the proportions/distances are WAY off...

I'm just going for a pleasing look, not realistic

I think it looks cool. And hyenolie anything thats drawn, painted, photographed, sculpted etc. IS art.

unless its showing in the Tate modern ;) then its just shit, piss, blood and vomit

no really, there's been a painting made from shit, a frozen piss sculpture, a frozen head of blood and a vomit stained bed.

Um ew, thats just disgusting. One must be a very sick man if one thinks of that as art.

Sachi paid a fortune for most of it, then he fell out with Hurst so Hurst bought back the frozen head.. which I think by that time had been ruined when a freezer was accidently turned off or something

Anyone who likes the Tate modern needs their head tested. Winning the turner prize is nothing more than the biggest insult to a real artist. Let the posh knobs have their buckets of crap and clay pots made by men in drag depicting child molesting while the real artists do real art elsewhere. The place atleast keeps those dickheads away from the rest of us. They've some cheek calling themselves artists.

Neptune was always my favorite planet as a kid, but I think that was just because it's blue.

Damn nice. The stars look fine.

I might even take another look at Blender because of this (I downloaded it once, but the bloomin' thing's controls used to dissapear whenever I held my mouse over them).
