Asshole says Tillman got what he deserved.

that is sick. the man gave up a seat in the nfl to defend us and then dies in the name of our country and he gets criticism? ugh....

Bah, I really really hate it when I remember just how many insanely stupid and ignorant people there are in this world. I blame you for reminding me Ghost....

Seriously though.... how do they come up with this shit? :frown:

You know, I rarely throw out harsh insults on this board, but that guy certainly sounds like an asshole to me.

Tillman gave up a multimillion dollar football career to earn 20,000 a year as an Army ranger. I guess Mr. Gonzalez doesn't understand what that means....

He's probably a protected college student, who follows ****ing stupid populist politics.

Gah. Ooo, so you know all about life, being a student and all don't you. Arrogant mother****er tbh.

IF the columnist is correct, it certaintly takes something away from what we read in the papers. :|

"Well, he got his wish. Even Rambo got shot in the third movie, but in real life, you die as a result of being shot. They should call Pat Tillman's army life 'Rambo 4: Rambo Attempts to Strike Back at His Former Rambo 3 Taliban Friends, and Gets Killed.'"

That just makes the writer sound so dumb...Im not surprised he wrote something like this. How that ever got put in i don't know.

You're right badger, there are a lot of students who think they know it all. The problem is, because they have an idea they just assume its the right thing because they don't know anyway better. I can't hate them because i feel so sorry for them in their ignorance.

"Our decision to publish Gonzalez's column -- an opinion piece written by a member of our campus community -- is the only way for us to live up to this ideal."

Clearly not...They obviously dont have too much experience with newspapers as they didnt "stir up public debate", they just made themselves look like tards. They could have gone about this so differently, if they had just been a bit mroe intelectual about it then perhaps i might be willing to see where they are going but the way they write and defend something so rotten as this just loses my respect for them.

ok but thats bullsh!t. As far as i'm concerned, Tillman is the definition of a hero. To give up everything like a multimillion dollar contract in the nfl so u can do your part to defend your country is astounding. There isn't anything more noble he could have done and should be shown the respect he earned, not criticized and insulted by some asshole writer.

im all for arguing but that guys an asshat.

though i wouldent call tillman a hero, he did a damn good thing.

If a person who joins the military to defend his people and dies in the line of duty is "[getting] whats comming to him", what is "comming" to those who are not willing to do make the same sacrifice?

Something worse than death for sure.

Poll: Emmigrate all Puerto Ricans to Iran?

I can't beleive that arrogant son of a bitch has the nerve to try and portray this guy as some...omfg...what the **** was he trying to portray him as? I havn't quite figured that out. How in the hell can anyone say this bullshit about a guy you turned down a multi-million dollar contract with the NFL to join the Army because of 9/11

Omg, people like this should be given the death penalty. It's just beyong my comprehension as to how he can possibly come to a conclusion like that.

wow..... that guy deserves a punch in the face...... :frown:

...I wonder if he just thinks its cool to get mentioned in the news or he is trying to be a "rebel" or what.

I suspect the latter.

Neither, he's just an idiot.

ok, thats just WRONG to say that man....guy is a total jerk.

Well guys, that's what you get with freedom of speech (yes, the same thing that this soldier died for). It's either listening to idiots all the time (media these days are full of them), or have communist regime. But even if I don’t care about that sportsman, it’s sad to see this student writing something like that, because soldier died for what he believed in, and I personally think, it is the greatest thing you can achieve in your life. Yapping your mouth is easy, doing something to accomplish it is much harder.

Oh and his comment about “In our country he would be called an idiot”… Well guess what, you are living in USA now, people have different views on life here.

I'm surprised something like that was even printed in the school's paper originally. Irresponsible.

ok so, I will laugh if Mr. Rene Gonzalez is shot in the head. Infact , Id do it myself.

reak, no one is even talking about free speech. no one want's him to not have had the right to say what he said, they just think he's an asshole for saying it. anyway, it's pretty bad that simple speculation passes for "editorials". i wonder what the majority of puerto ricans would think about his comments? but it is a school paper; you can print pretty much whatever you want in them.

and all you ppl saying you'd kill the author and all that, seriously, stop. you didn't know pat tillman, so you have no cause to do anything except speak out about it.

Wow, look at Mr. Gonzalez. He's a freakin' college student who knows everything there is to know about everything. I hate arrogant people like him. They always think that they are right, they never believe what others say.

To say such things about a man who gave up a seat in the NFL with a nice yearly payment of 3.5 million dollars so that he could defend his country for 15,000 is sick. Pat obviously didn't care about the money, he cared about his country. He probably thought of september 11th and though of the troops in Afghanistan and wanted to be like them and make a difference.

Even though that Gonzalez bitch is arrogant and knows everything, he has no idea about the military. People don't join to be "Rambo," they join because they want to serve the country or prove themselves physically and feel good about helping. Apparently, anyone who gives up a nice civilian life and becomes a soldier is a Rambo. I consider Pat Tillman a hero and an excellent example of a great human being.

What has that bitch Gonzalez done for his country? Nothing but sicken a lot of its citizens. In America we have a lot of words for idiot too. He can all us pendejos in his native language of spanish and go back to Puerto Rico.

(I have no problems with the spanish language or Puerto Rican people, I have a problem with Rene Gonzalez. I like spanish, I take spanish class and it is an interesting language.)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rene Gonzalez: (noun) 1) An arrogant sack of crap with no respect for his countries troops. 2) An arrogant sack of crap who thinks of soldiers as "Rambo." 3) A person who cannot appreciate what Pat Tillman sacrificed for his country.

Example:
1) "What an arrogant bastard that man is, he's such a Rene Gonzalez."

See also: Asshole, prick, idiot, pendejo

After reading that I was at first pissed off. However I am now feeling somewhat satisfied when I think about the humiliation he is now probably facing at his school. At least he is not going unpunished.

For crying out loud. The guy definitely went overboard, but you have to admit that Tillman is/was getting way too much publicity for his death. When any other soldier dies in the name of "freedom," he becomes a statistic. When an ex-football player dies, it's some kind of national tragedy.

Sure it's sad, but it pisses me off when people put more attention to calling him a hero just because he was famous. He's no more of a hero than the other 700 soldiers that have died over there recently.
**** media.

but that story is retarded

I agree with no28 + hiln, but i do not agree with the guy who wrote the article.

Omg why did Tillman have to die!?! He was the perfect example of someone who follows their dreams etc etc. Perfect person to look up to.

This guy's apparently from Puerto Rico. I say we *leak* information about how Puerto Rico desires to have the capabilities to acquire weapons of mass destruction for the use of evil purposes. Then the U.S. can declare war on Puerto Rico and all the little starving orphan children over there we always here about will face the wrath of U.S. Air superiority!!!! Then he won't even have a home neighborhood to refer to that uses the word pendejo. Well, he'll have a crater that used to have people who would use the word pendejo to describe a certain someone.

you call me murderous?

One of the reasons they focus on Tillman is because he passed up the chance at fame and fortune. As for all soldiers becoming statistics, they don't acquire the same attention, but MSNBC.com always has their names up. So they're not just a number there. They have a list of every soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm not defending this, I believe all soldiers deserve the same publicity. But I do understand the reaction to his death because he did it for that particular reason.

And to Moto, not all who join the military are brave.
There were soldiers who tried to sue Bush when he ordered the military to Iraq, and there was that one man who threw the grenade into his superior's tent...killing 14 soldiers.
Some are cowards, join for a payment bonus, join for college money, etc.
Seriously. When I was at my recruiter's office one time, this chin-jutter walked in talking about the bonus the army was giving out, and asked what the navy could do for him.

meh, I'll get my opinions out about this now. not that anything good will come of it

on one hand, that article is horribly insensitive and is just plain arrogant. The guy has no right to call the man an idiot for serving his country. Tillman is a brave guy for leaving his life in football to go to war, and its very commendable.

on the other hand, he doesn't deserve any more merit or attention than the other soldiers. its really quite unfair that we only hear about the famous and not the hundreds of other soldiers that have died in this silly war.

i was listening to jim rome this morning (nationally syndicated sports radio talkshow host for those who don't know) and he was mentioning that the tillman family was trying to get people to calm down about singling pat tillman out as a hero. they wanted to emphasize that pat was just another soldier fighting for what he believes is right, which is a very admirable thing his family is trying to do, and it's very likely what a person of tillman's character thought about it all; "just fighting for a cause." again, honorable. i think the school newspaper is doing the right thing by posting articles that present 2 polarized opinions of a subject. that being said, i COMPLETELY disagree with what Gonzales wrote. what stuck out most as an ignorant, asinine comment was "I could tell he was that type of macho guy, from his scowling, beefy face on the CNN pictures." i mean come on. anyone with half a brain knows better than to judge a person by their looks. but gonzales proved he's not up to the task of being a respectable person from the writing of the article anyways. i hope gonzales learns some respect for the dead some day.
