A new beta version of the Source SDK is now available through Steam, accessable by adding -beta sdk to your Steam shortcut when you launch it. Users can now create of HDR maps with the new version of Hammer, which implements shaded texture views, models appearing properly in 2D views, and several interface tweaks. The DoD:S gameinfo.txt file has been updated to support these new tools, and with it comes a minor fix to the HL1 engine including Condition Zero bugfixes and additions to the Dedicated Server utility.

Have some highly unofficial and experimental screenshots of MINERVA in HDR!

Yup, it's an old version of Metastasis running in Lost Coast. It definitely won't get released like this (the skybox is completely inappropriate for a start) but it's much more interesting than a blank cuboid test map with HDR. ;-)

...Was in process of typing this!

You can do the next few news posts. I've done loads today.

God, I love that ghost smiley. Where did it come from? It's a mystery!

But when it comes out of beta it will automaticly update the sdk even without the -beta in the launcer. And what if you put the -beta will you need to delete it after the program has gone out of beta so you can dlad the finished version.

Who knows tbh...

:annoyingdancingthingy:
oh

:iiam:

It sucks that nothing has really been fixed about the SDK, but I suppose I'll have to live with Valve's slowness.

Also, nice work on Minerva, cargo. Looks badass as always.

EDIT: Pretty sure that smiley came from SA, but I could be wrong.

- Complete HDR support
- Autosaving
- 2D wireframe view for models
- New model browser
- Scaling texture lock
- Model fade preview

Amazing.

Being able to see your displacements in the 2D view = Handy to say the least. And I think we all know how shit the old model browser was...

Apart from... ;-)

Cheers! No idea when MINERVA can officially sprout HDR (it seems it needs code support in the mod itself, and Half-Life 2's DLLs aren't enough) but it's definitely something which fascinates me. Be very surprised if it doesn't appear at some point in the future...

Great news! Ive been waiting for this for a long time.

Well, all of that is for Hammer (and hl2mv...), which I never use. All of the problems/bugs with the code of the game are still there- that's what I was referring to :).

Visual Studio Express 2005

Forgive the potentially ignorant question, but is this the SDK that requires updating so that we can compile with Microsofts free Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition? And, if so, have the changes been made (I couldn't see them in the change log)?

Updated Hammer is fantastic. Productivity++

Amazing, just read the changelist :O
Too bad I don't have enough space on my hdd to test it, damn :/

Oh, Autosaving, Thank freakin god. You shoulda seen me a couple night's ago mapping, 2 Hour's on a map. Did'nt save at all. And Boom, Window's/Hammer error. Oh man, At the time I was so tempted to put a bat to my computer.

I have never really touched SDK so this isn't something for me to get too worked up about :p however i suppose i'll have a little mess around here and there at some point :)

I'm having a problem with the SDK Beta, When I try to run any map in Hammer, It gives me this error message.

Code:
Unable to load c:\program files\steam\steamapps\username\counter-strike source\bin\filesystem_steam.dll

Help Anyone? :|

Run CSS first then try it again.

If you look at the Wiki someone has already posted that problem

You can see, in blue, the outlines of the trees, gravestones and displacements. Also, the 3D view is now "shaded".

Wow, that looks sweet. Can't wait to get home and try it out on the map I'm making :)

Best update ever.
