To all those that own an Asus A8V deluxe sound card: have you tried using the onboard sound? and if so, is the quality any good or should i really get a sound card of my own.

I'm currently on an SB live value 5.1 that I don't have any complaints about. But I'm thinking about upgrading to something like an Audigy LS 5.1 thats like in the 45 dollar range. Is it worth it or necessry over the onboard sound? Over the SB live value 5.1?

well, I have Klipsch promedia 2.1's. I want to upgrade to 5.1s but I've got no clue when that might be.

i have the a8v deluxe, and i only tried the onboard sound once (on accident actually). But, it sounded no different then my Audigy 2. although, i heard that they dont have a dedicated processor for the onboard, so, it uses the actual processor which might slow down some apps/ games with really intense high quality sound. (or so i hear...correct me if im wrong) If i were you id pick up the Audigy 2 6.1 for 70 bucks from newegg.. thats what i have.

Feature chart comparing audigy cards

You have a really good set of 2.1 speakers. You will benefit from a new sound card, in my opinion. The link above is for a review of the Audigy 2 ZS Platinium Pro ($200 sound card) but has a feature chart comparing the different type of Audigy sound cards available for sale.

An Audigy LS will improve your sound quality, but I think spending the extra money on a Audigy 2 ZS will let your Klipsch's spread their wings a bit more. Plus it gives you more upgrade options (in terms of speakers in the future).

I only use the on board, sounds fine to me. Honestly, I can't hear the difference between my SB 5.1 Value. Then again, sound is at the bottom of my computer parts list.
