As of the 1st of January, 2008:
Asustek - brand business (retail?)
Unihan - OEM PC-related devices, such as mainboards and add-in-cards
Pegatron - OEM computer cases, various modules as well as take over non-PC contract manufacturing business.

Asustek used to be called Pegasus. Probably how they got Pegatron.

I think they pull these names out of hat but most likely their own ass.

Instead of Pegatron they should have named them Autobot and Decepticon. hehe

lol

I remember building a bike back in the day, the Peregrine 3 piece crank was a beast. I always liked the way that word sounded. Reminded me of something like my avatar or an evil Pegasus or something.

I think Pegatron is pretty decent. Things change with name recognition though. Think of any brand name, and it probably sounds weird. Coke. Pepsi. Nintendo. You know? The name will appear stronger if the stuff they sell is high quality. Ever think about that? Think of something cheaply made, and instantly the name of the company sounds cheap. Think of something high quality, and the name of the company sounds solid and strong. Possibly why I liked the Peregrine name so much - it was an extremely high quality racing crank.

Peregrine sounds like some kind of bird?

I really meant something like a Griffon or Pegasus or something (a beast, or a unique name of a specific beast) with wings.

It's probably the reason I think of it like that is because the brand name of the frame I put the crank on was a Skyway.... you know? wings - skyway?

It always reminded me of the lord of the rings or something. Like Aragorn, Peregrine, Dio, Gothmog, Sauron, Smeagul... these names are all tied together in my memory for some reason.

I don't know. no big deal lol :D

what do you think it sounds like the name of?

Pegatron is one of the worst computer hardware company names I've ever heard.
