Release date for the PS2 is this year, Xbox some time in March 2006. An Xbox 360 version is also planned according to some rumours.

Not much info released on it sadly, but you are going to play as some kind of retired Black-Op agent, and will take place at Eastern Europe.
It was first revealed behind closed doors back at E3 2004. Some sites saw it there and, surprisingly, everyone got very impressed by it.

Gamespot got a preview on it as well as IGN and Eurogamer.

the emphasis was on big time effects, the statement that left an impression on me was "Criterion believe that missing a shot should be just as exciting and visually rewarding, as making said shot" .... or something to that effect.

in other words they are shooting for movie-esque debris, ricochets, explosions etc etc.
should be interesting (since I love that sort of thing)
