Have some questions before buying it.

1. How much is Athlon64 3500+ better than P4 3.06 Ghz Northwood?
2. If you overclock a 3500+ to 3800+ speed, will it perform just as well as 3800+ or will 3800+ still be better and why?
3. Is it worth getting 3500+ if you allready have P4 3.06Ghz?

Thanks

1. I'd say 2x better, due to 64 bit, dual memory controller and the .5 ghz
2. It will be just as good as 3800
3. Not yet... Wait till the price drops once or twice

Synthos thanks

Over here 3500+ costs $350 and 3800+ costs $620 so I'll save alot of money if I buy 3500+ and overclock it to 3800+ speed.

I'll get x800 XT next week so I need to have a good cpu.

is $350 a good price for 3500+?

yes, $350 is good price for a 3500+, according to pricewatch anyways..

I'd say the 3400+ is the best value, though, at around $282, but I guess if you have the extra moolah go for the 3500+.

Just a question.

With:

1024 Mb RAM
3.06 Ghz
X800 XT
x4 AGP

Will I get 80+ fps at res 1024x768 with everything maxed including AA and AF on HL2?

Its probable you'll get higher FPS thas that...

if you check out the benchmark scores in the below URL you can see that a 3500+ with 1024 mb and x800 xt gets 127.07 FPS at 1024x768 with 4X AA and 8X AF enabled. I'm guess your P4 3.06 GHz will bench between 110fps and 120 fps at that same resolution.

keep your P4.... :E

I'm getting a 3500+ for 380 so 350 is a good deal. I've found one for 348 from xtremegere.com but i'd rather get a part that big from a place I can deal with in person.

I'm upgrading from an athlon xp 2400+ so i'm sure its worth it.

You will have more than enough power with that setup.
It is true the 3500+ is very very quick and I would assume you could OC it fairly easy to 3800+ speeds.
It's up to you.

Although the 3.06Ghz P4 was 533 FSB...it should still be more than enough with an X800 XT.

Thanks guys

I'll wait for my X800 xt card and see what scores I get then :)
