I have recently upgraded from a GeForce 4ti 4200, to a ATi 9600 XT. I have uninstalled the drivers for the Geforce, and then I powered down the computer and put the 9600 in. When I started up the computer, everything had power, however the monitor doesnt come on and the screen stays black. Then I took it out and put the Geforce back in, and everything works. The motherboard I have is a A7N8X-X. Any ideas?

Hmmm, I did pretty much the same thing when I put in my 9800SE, from 4 MX440

Did you connect the card up to the PSU, if it needed to be?

if ur connections are all correct, then it sounds like a installation problem, consult a microsoft lisence technition and he will tell you the real way of installig, persoanly i dont see how your monitor is supposto use ur vid card if ur vid card has no drivers. but i may be wronge ont his one.

exactly the same as mine, only mine is a A7N8X-D, but same ATI card. No issues with installing it. It could well be a dead card, as it should come up with atleast something.. Try plug a TV in, when I last had an ATI card, a really old AIW pro, I noticed it would boot in TV mode to begin with, which was handy when the monitor blew and I needed a display quickly. Check the bios settings aswell. They might be geared for the Geforce and not setup correctly anymore for an ATI card.. I installed on a straight new machine that hadn't had a geforce in it so I don't know if that could be the case.. Maybe there's not enough power for it? Or maybe the AGP is configured incorrectly for it? Or it may, and I hope its not, be a dead card, which will REALLY suck ;(

I'd check its pushed in enough, I find AGP a bit funny like that, it can seem to be fully plugged in but its not. So hopefully its just something like that :)

maybe put the installation cd that came with the card in the cd-rom drive when you boot

If the monitor doesn't come on at all then it has nothing whatsoever to do with the drivers, try clearing your cmos or trying the card in a different comp. Make sure the card is connected to a live molex plug leading from the psu. If this doesn't work then your card is most likely fried; return it.

The 9600XT doesn't require an external power source, AFAIK, mine doesn't.. *checks* nope no mention of it needing one, phew :)

Hmm i had the same prob when trying to put my 9700 pro into my a7v8x... problem was the the rev. 1.0 of the mobo diddn't work with the radeon cards... so i ended up RMAing the mobo.

He should start charging. ;)

hehe, na were good friends, i help him, he helps me, no charge at all =D!

Sounds like it's not seated correctly. A lot of time AGP cards really need to be jammed into their slot. Gently jammed. 8.2 times out of 10 this will solve the problem. Hope you're lucky.

Seen this before, it was on a blown board, it's voltage regulators were fried. Mostly because the owner fried his nVidia card which dominoed back onto the boards chips.

What you may want to try is resetting your BIOS after installing the new card. It could possibly just be that your voltage settings are unable to change, due to some setting you may have...
