I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to graphics cards, but not totally.

Does anyone recommend me spending £300 (a month's wages to me) on this?

Sorry if people are annoyed at these constant "help, what should I get 2 play hL2?!111", but I really would like some opinions from the community.

The XT cards are quite pricy for the gain you get. A straight 128 MB 9800 Pro will run HL² perfectly well and they are a lot cheaper in price.

the new x800xt's offer a gain higher to the x800pro unlike the 9800xt that offered a small gain over the 9800pro.

mostly because of the 16 pipes

X800 and the 9800 xt or the same price, the 9800 pro is about half the price. The pro and the XT run about the same but the x800 is about twice as good.

:hmph: x800 Pro runs for $399 while the 9800 XT goes for $499, last time I checked, and the 9800 Pro is about $240. Go either for the X800 Pro or the 9800 Pro, the 9800 XT is just too much for little performance gain over the 9800 Pro, plus the x800 beats the shit out of the 9800 XT :dozey: .

That was on the first page I checked so you could probably find a better deal.
