ok, i bought one yesterday, fun stuff... until i try to use it.

goddamn thing is just error after error after error after error(etc)

the catalyst control centre WONT load.

i try running HL2 and it works fine until i switch to 1600x1200, then the game crashes and i get 2 errors. i cant figure out what the errors are now, because every time i try to load the game it crashes with that memory can not be read error.

NONE of the above occured with my geforce 5200(though i never had catalyst till i got the radeon.)

anyone?

new info: now i get "failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8::LockIndexBuffer"

i assume that DX8 stands for direct x 8....but why? i have dx9.0c installed....shouldnt it be using DX 9?

THEN the memory error comes up

update: forced dx 9 mode, game actually started, framerate DROPPED to 0(at 1024x768).

guess i should have put this in my first post:
SPECS:
p4 3.1ghz
1gig ram
radeon 9800 pro aiw 128mb
NOTHING overclocked.

Ya make sure to uninstall all of your video drivers. Next reboot and windows should say "found new hardware VGA card" or something like that down on the taskbar. Then download catalyst 4.12 and install it. Make sure you have .net framework installed (from windows update) or control center wont work. Finally i would make sure you dont have max AA or AF forced in the panel. If that doesnt work update your motherboard drivers. Hope that helps!

thats like everything i did yesterday.

catalyst control centre thing only works when you got the microsoft .net thing installed. You can do it on Windows Update.

are any of you listening? i did that YESTERDAY, it still doesnt work.

If you really did do all of that (I doubt it) then your last option is to reformat.

I don't listen to words :D i read

*although in this case i didn't*

theres gotta be something else, i dont want to reformat again :/

screw the big catalyst control panel.... just use the ggod drivers..

yeah i changed to the regular 4.12 drivers but it didnt help...or change anything at all :s

anyone know what the launch command is to set the resolution to 1024x768?

If not for reformatting then i have the perfect solution. Return the card and get a new one! But seriously, try your card in someone elses computer and if it doesnt work then return it for another 9800 or try a 6600gt.
