It's taken them well over a year, but they've finally done it for the time being. The 3870 X2 is now the best single-card solution on the market, priced at a competitive $449 MSRP. Unfortunately for AMD, Nvidia's G90s are just around the corner. Review can be found here.

Benchmarks:

Crysis
Bioshock
Call of Duty 4
Half Life 2

Well done AMD.. but surely it's too late?

The new release of the G90s and the price drop in the 8000 series will give this one hell of a challenge.

And WOW that card is long. Too big for my case and many others without full towers.

I'm glad they've done something right recently, hopefully they'll pick their game up and there will be healthy competition between them and Nvidia.

Looks good but, we'll have to see what Nvidia has to bring to compete in this generation's battle.

Think they left it too late. It's not going to be too long until the 9800 X2s come out, and if nvidia want to be bastards they might price them competitively with better performance :/

turn on AA then the fps plummit below 15fps

wtf r u talkin bout? noone has even mentiond a game, screen rez, or nothin. u didnt even say wat card ur talkin bout. so how can you even TRY to say dat? mayby below 15 fps for YOU with ur crappy PC, but real ppl with real PCs can use FULL rez, FULL settings and FULL AA etc in virtually ANY game, with GREAT fps. of cours i wouldnt put an exact number on it, becoz we aint talkin bout any particlur game, settings, rez etc. only an idiot would do that.

Wow, thats the first time ive put someone on my ignore list who has had under 5 posts.

Anyways, when the new geforce comes out, how soon with the 8800 cards drop in price?

I don't imagine nvidia will be in a hurry to release most of the 9000 series except maybe the 9800x2 to regain the top-end.
They can easily do what intel are doing with cpus atm :(

If you're going to spout drivel at least back it up with evidence. Hell, the ability to spell properly would be nice to.

I challenge you to play Crysis at "FULL rez, FULL settings and FULL AA etc" with whatever setup you have. Oh wait, you can't play it at a decent frame rate. Now stfu. (Maybe you're running on an 800x600 display?)

It's awesome to see some long overdue competition from AMD/ATI, this is what the market really needed.

thats xactly my point - it depends wat game, settings and rez ur talking bout. he said "put on AA and drop below 15 fps". well in 1400x900 in COD4 with full AA, settings on high, i get 110 + fps. in crysis at 1400x900 on high with full AA i get 40 + fps. so wat the hell is he on about? ill tell u wat: nothing.

my specs? amd 6000 dual core, 2gb ddr2 800 gskill ram, xfx 8800gt 512mb xxx edition, etc.

him sayin "put on AA and drop below 15 fps" is as dum as sayin "a person can only run at 2 miles an hour" - wat person? how old? male or female? how long for? do they have anythin on their bak? one leg? without the answers to stuff like that and bein moore specific, his statment is worthless.

I wast talking about the new ati card you idiot.

yeah? you didnt say that. you also didn't say wat GAME, wat grafix SETTINGS, wat screen rez, wat SYSTEM (cpu/ram/etc etc)...i could go on, but you shud see my point by now. lets even forget that all 4 a minit: even in crysis, my card dont drop anywere near below 15 fps with AA on. and it aint even this "wunderful" new card u r talking bout. youre an idiot. u just pulled a number from ur ass, and tried 2 pass it as a fact.

You have an 8800GT. What res do you play Crysis on? What are your other specs?

ive alredy coverd that:

1400x900 ?

A game pushing plain-jane 1280x1024 rez is showing more pixels than the above. ;)

ive alredy coverd that:

Well then. 1440x900 is hardly taxing. Lay off the guy for not being totally specific when he makes a point.

I mean, I still very much doubt you're running on max settings. Even on high, with full AA on you should be playing a stuttery game at best.

Maybe high settings with 2x AA, but certinaly not the Max AA business you were on about earlier.

Yeah, it's faster, but it's also huge. It's two GPUs on one board, so tech-wise a fairer comparison would be to put it against 2 8800s in SLI, which I'm sure it would squarely lose. Practicality-wise, yeah, at the moment it's the fastest single-slot graphics solution on the market.

I see this as a sort of cheap trick to get the crown back, without the tech there to stay king of the hill for very long.

yeah? you didnt say that.

It was the only card with benchmarks linked to in this thread. It was the card the OP was talking about. It was the card this thread was made to discuss.

So obviously he was responding to you mentioning your own personal gfx card once two posts above -.-

so what? im not tryin to have the biggst e-peen. i just play on my widescreen - so y would i set it to a non-widescreen rez? havin less pixels halps performance too, so its a doubl win for me.

see above. it holds at least 40 fps. i might have tweekd the cpu a little, and remember the 8800GT is the XXX edition - core clock is 670mhz instead of 600. but who cares? runs great at full for me. couldnt give a crap if u believe or not.

Actually, it's a dual-slot card, judging by the photos.

aye.
Even though it has just one PCI-Express connector it does take up 2 expansion slots. Best to call it a single-card solution rather than slot.

Nice to know. Thought'd they'd do it. I'll keep this in mind for my upgrade. Yeah, this card would be sexeh in my machine
